As a key project of Archaeological China set up by National Cultural Heritage Administration, a new round of archaeological excavation to Sanxingdui Site has recently achieved a milestone. On the afternoon of March 24, Peng Qinghua, Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee, went to the Sanxingdui Site in Guanghan City, Deyang to inspect and guide the archaeological excavation work. He stressed that it is necessary to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on archaeological and historical research, and take the construction of Sanxingdui National Cultural Relic Protection and Utilization Demonstration Area as an opportunity to improve the protection and inheritance system, do a good job in the restoration and protection of unearthed cultural relics, strengthen historical and cultural research and interpretation, build a national archaeological site park to promote the integrated development of culture and tourism, and constantly enhance the influence of ancient Shu civilization represented by Sanxingdui Site.

　　Sanxingdui Site is one of the most important archaeological discoveries of mankind in the 20th century, hailed as “a beauty that had slept for three thousand years woke up and amazed the world”. The current archaeological excavation has unearthed more than 500 pieces of cultural relics from 6 sacrificial pits, many of which are the first of their kind discovered so far. Peng Qinghua was very concerned about the new round of archaeological excavation at Sanxingdui Site. He came to the spot of the archaeological excavation to observe the excavation progress in the sacrificial pits and the excavation condition of cultural relics such as ivories, bronze ware and gold ware. He visited the field laboratory and Sanxingdui Museum Cultural Heritage Protection Center to carefully inspect the newly unearthed cultural relics with the help of scientific instruments, and listen to reports on the restoration and protection of cultural relics and the construction of Sanxingdui National Cultural Relic Protection and Utilization Demonstration Area. In order to promote archaeology, protection and research simultaneously, more than 30 research institutions and universities in China participate in this archaeological excavation. On behalf of the provincial party committee, Peng Qinghua kindly condoled the archaeological experts and workers, expressed his gratitude to them, and encouraged them to continue their efforts and cooperate closely in the follow-up excavation, protection and research.

　　Peng Qinghua pointed out that ancient Shu civilization represented by Sanxingdui Site is part and parcel of the pluralistic origin of Chinese civilization. Archaeological excavations of the related sites are of great significance for studying the history of the Chinese nation, demonstrating the achievements of Chinese civilization and enhancing cultural confidence. It is necessary to give full play to the advantages of the multi-disciplinary and multi-team joint archaeological excavation, actively construct new models of deep cooperation such as field archaeology, laboratory archaeology, and science and technology archaeology, and make full use of modern science and technology and information technology to improve the capacity of archaeological discovery and achievements analysis and to improve the capability of protecting unearthed cultural relics and the site. It is necessary to deepen the academic research on the latest archaeological discoveries of Sanxingdui Site, combine it with Baodun culture and Jinsha culture to further reveal the development and evolution of ancient Shu civilization, and do a good job of popular interpretations to let cultural relics speak, let history speak and let culture speak. In recent years, Sanxingdui Site has become an attractive business card of Sichuan cultural tourism because of its unique cultural value, historical value and resource value. On the basis of comprehensive and effective protection, it is necessary to do a good job in rational utilization, inheritance and development, building a high-quality Sanxingdui National Cultural Relic Protection and Utilization Demonstration Area, and strengthening relics protection and environmental improvement in key protected zones in accordance with world cultural heritage standards to create a world-class national archaeological site park.
