On March 11st, Sichuan Airlines Co., Ltd. and Brussels Airport jointly held a cargo aircraft promotion conference in Chengdu, and signed a cooperation agreement to clarify the cooperation framework between the two sides in the opening of freighter airlines and joint hub construction. The reporter learned that Sichuan Airlines plans to introduce a full cargo aircraft during the year and open a direct cargo aircraft from Chengdu to Brussels, Belgium.
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport is the fourth largest aviation hub in China. By the end of 2018, 335 routes have been opened, reaching out to five continents. The passenger throughput has reached 52.91 million and the cargo throughput around 660,000 tons. There is still huge potential for cargo transportation.
According to the plan, Sichuan Airlines will introduce three Airbus A330-200F all-cargo aircraft during this year to form the initial cargo aircraft operation fleet and invest them mainly in international routes. Sichuan Airlines Logistics Co., Ltd., as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sichuan Airlines, will undertake the market sales and service guarantee business of all cargo aircraft operations on top of the cargo transportation business of Sichuan Airlines passenger aircraft.
It was revealed that Sichuan Airlines will design logistics routes in the form of “Chengdu as the base, domestic + international”, and has made initial plans to open airlines to Belgium, Russia, India and Japan, connecting Europe and Asia. Brussels Airport in Belgium will serve as the hub of the Sichuan Airlines cargo aircraft to Europe.
Mr. Yang Hongbo,Vice Governor of People’s Government of Sichuan Province, attended the signing ceremony.
