On May 2, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, and the Chengdu Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences signed the agreement. The three parties will jointly build the Chengdu Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the Chengdu Administration District of Tianfu New Area. The institute is led by University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chengdu Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, jointly organized by the Academy of Optoelectronics, the Chengdu Institute of Biology, Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chengdu Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chengdu Institute of Computing Technology, and Chengdu Library and Information Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is a secondary school directly subordinate to Chinese Academy of Sciences, also an important part of the local higher education system.

　　This institute will focus on the major strategic needs of Chengdu and explore the academic and research bases based on the optoelectronic technology, biology, mountain hazards and ecological environment, chemistry, computer science, library and information science and other predominant disciplines of the scientific research institutes in the Chengdu area. It is to explore the cultivation model of the collaborative innovation of industry, school and research as well as the deep civil-military integration, establish a diversified postgraduate training system, and position itself as a science-education college with multidisciplinary integration, international perspective and international influence.

　　The first phase of the project covers an area of 229 mu. A total of approximately 80,000 square meters of basic facilities including a comprehensive teaching building, a library, an academic exchange center, an education management building, and student apartments, canteens, and student activity centers will be built; the Institute of Optoelectronics, School of Life Sciences, School of Artificial Intelligence and Institute of Integrated Circuits will be established. We will strive to complete the construction of the basic teaching park by 2020. By 2025, the number of students in the school will reach 1,500. By 2030, it will reach 3,000.

　　Since 2016, Chengdu and the Chinese Academy of Sciences have taken Tianfu New Area as a key area, actively expanding cooperation and strengthening the in-depth connection between the national strategic scientific and technological forces and local innovation and development. Seven organizations will move to Tianfu Science City to build a platform for achievement transfer and transformation of the results of Chinese Academy of Sciences; the originations are the central department of Chengdu Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academy of Optoelectronics, Chengdu Institute of Biology, Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chengdu Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chengdu Institute of Computing Technology, and Chengdu Library and Information Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
