On September 7, Shi Xiaolin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, met in Chengdu with a delegation of Hawaii State legislators from the United States (U.S.).

Shi Xiaolin welcomed the delegation to visit Sichuan and briefed them on Sichuan's economic and social development. She noted that Chinese and U.S. heads of state held a summit in Beijing this year, which defined the vision of a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability. Sichuan Province and Hawaii State enjoy a long history of exchanges, and have made positive progress in many fields such as sister-city exchanges, economic and trade cooperation, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and tourism interactions. Sichuan Province and Hawaii State share strong complementarity in resources and industries, and face common issues such as addressing climate change, ensuring both development and security, and green and low-carbon transition, which create broad space for cooperation. She expressed the hope that the delegation's visit will serve as an opportunity to jointly implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state, uphold mutual respect and work in the same direction for win-win cooperation, further strengthen friendly government-to-government and non-governmental exchanges, make good use of platforms such as the Western China International Fair and the China International Friendship Cities Conference, deepen economic, trade and investment cooperation in modern agriculture, clean energy and other sectors, facilitate two-way tourist exchanges and source-market connectivity, expand the bilateral cultural and tourism markets, explore cooperation in culture, education, youth exchanges and other fields, continue to enhance people's well-being and friendship, and make positive contributions to the stable, sound and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations through practical sub-national cooperation outcomes.

Sean Quinlan, Hawaii State Representative and Majority Leader of the Hawaii House of Representatives, said that Hawaii State and Sichuan Province enjoy a long history of friendly exchanges. He expressed hopes to actively foster friendly ties between Hawaii State and Sichuan Province, promote the launch of direct flight routes, deepen exchanges and cooperation in such fields as economy, trade, industry, culture, tourism, education and sports, jointly tackle common challenges in development, and take bilateral win-win cooperation to new heights.

Ren Jingdong, Vice Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, Hu Yuankun, Secretary-General of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, and leading officials from relevant provincial departments attended the meeting.
