On September 16, the 11th Sichuan Provincial Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 6th Sichuan Provincial Special Olympic Games kicked off at the Guang'an Olympic Sports Center Stadium in Guang'an City. Hu Yun, Vice Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, declared the opening. Wang Fei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Sichuan Provincial People's Congress, and Liu Chengming, Vice Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended the opening ceremony.

At around 20:00, athlete representatives from delegations of all 21 cities (prefectures) across the province and the specially invited delegation from Beibei District of Chongqing Municipality marched into the venue, where the audience greeted them with warm applause to extend welcome and respect. The cultural and sports performance "Gathering Starlight in Guang'an, Shining in Tianfu" then kicked off.

The opening ceremony performance followed the principle of delivering a streamlined, safe and splendid event, with persons with disabilities and other special groups as the main performers, showcasing the contemporary ethos of inclusive participation of persons with disabilities and able-bodied people and the tenacious and unyielding spirit. The 65-minute performance deeply integrated revolutionary culture and local characteristics, incorporating geographical elements and intangible cultural heritage items. It depicted the magnificent landscapes of Sichuan and the new look of Guang'an's development in this new era, and presented Sichuan's achievements in high-quality development of programs for persons with disabilities.

The 11th Sichuan Provincial Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 6th Special Olympic Games were jointly hosted by Guang'an, Neijiang and Yibin, featuring a total of 26 competition events. The 11th Sichuan Provincial Games for Persons with Disabilities included 18 competition events, and the 6th Sichuan Provincial Special Olympic Games comprised 8 competition events. Nearly 4,000 athletes have registered to participate, with the competition for the first time divided into the youth group and the adult group, marking a dual breakthrough in both the scale of participation and the event setup.

To date, 15 pre-scheduled events of the 11th Sichuan Provincial Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 6th Sichuan Provincial Special Olympic Games have been completed. Five para-sports events, namely athletics, goalball, tennis, sitting volleyball and Special Olympics boccia, are set to start this week. Six events of the Games for Persons with Disabilities, including table tennis, badminton, shooting, archery, rowing, and canoeing, will begin in October. The closing ceremony will be held on November 2.
