For visitors from southern regions like Sichuan and Chongqing, the exhilarating experience of a hearty snow frolic or ski adventure proves irresistible. On February 10, the 2026 "Diverse Prevailing Features of Sichuan" large-scale thematic reporting campaign arrived at the Wawu Mountain Scenic Area in Hongya County, Meishan City. There, participants experienced firsthand the unique charm of Sichuan's ice and snow landscape and captured vivid scenes of tourists indulging wholeheartedly in snow-filled adventures.
To secure the best possible experience, many visitors opted to set out in the early hours and visit during off-peak times. The Huang Zixuan family from Qianwei County, Leshan City, set out on their journey on the afternoon of the 9th, stayed overnight in Hongya, and departed for the scenic area shortly after 5:00 a.m. on the 10th. "We arrived before the scenic area opened at 7 a.m., knowing it would get crowded later, so we made sure to arrive early," explained Mr. Huang, Zixuan's father. After hiking and taking the cable car, they were the first group of visitors to reach the summit of Wawu Mountain that day. "It was my child's first time seeing such thick snow, and she played absolutely thrilled."
Especially when it came to snow tubing, Huang Zixuan zoomed down the slope on her tube and insisted on going three times in a row, still craving more even after that. "That's actually quite common," said Wang Fengying, a ticket seller. She noted that the snow tubing attraction sells nearly 500 tickets per day on average—one visitor once bought ten in a single go, just to fully enjoy the ride.
Yang Yuting, a teacher from Nanchong who had never seen snow before, made a special trip to Wawu Mountain with friends to fulfill her "skiing dream". At the ski resort, despite a sore backside from falling, she was still buzzing with excitement.
For style-conscious young visitors, the snow-covered landscape is an ideal, open-air photo studio. This time, in addition to skiing, Yang Yuting and her friends also took plenty of photos and videos. In her view, Wawu Mountain offers excellent snow quality, beautiful scenery, and great value for money—all at a very low cost, making it an ideal getaway. "I'll bring my family back during the Spring Festival," she said.
Snow fever knows no age; the silver-haired crowd is just as passionate. Ms. Li, 72, from Chongqing, joined a two-day, one-night snow tour to Wawu Mountain with her 76-year-old friend. "The pristine scenery is absolutely breathtaking, totally worth the trip!"
In Wawu Mountain, the visitors' passion for ice and snow is written all over the slopes. By 9:30 a.m., the cable car entrance in the scenic area was already packed with a winding queue stretching hundreds of meters. Even the Gufo Skywalk—nicknamed "Despair Slope" by netizens—failed to dampen their enthusiasm. The snow-covered trail, stretching some 2,300 meters with over 3,600 steep steps, was still chosen by many hikers seeking an immersive winter experience.
According to Li Huijuan, head of the marketing and planning department at Wawu Mountain Scenic Area, the site has been receiving 5,000 to 7,000 visits per day on average since the start of winter. Most visitors come from Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, and Chongqing, with Sichuan and Chongqing making up the overwhelming majority. "As a top winter destination in southwest China, Wawu Mountain is expected to see over 10,000 daily visits during the Spring Festival holiday," she said.
The reporter learned that from the second to the seventh day of the first lunar month, the scenic area will launch a special cultural parade, offering an immersive snow-and-ice interactive experience. Meanwhile, diverse consumption experiences are being offered through events such as the Ice and Snow Mountaineering Challenge and the Gufoping Food Fair. These initiatives not only showcase Sichuan's splendid ice and snow landscapes but also continue to energize consumer spending.
