Updated: 2025.09.03

On September 1, multiple primary and secondary schools across Sichuan Province welcomed the first day of the 2025 autumn semester. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Multiple schools have integrated the profound legacy of the great spirit forged during the War of Resistance into their "First Lesson" activities, aiming to foster a sense of responsibility to the country among students.

Integrating the Legacy of the Great Spirit Forged During the War of Resistance into the "First Lesson of the Semester" Activity

"You must honor the heroes of the War of Resistance and carry forward their great spirit. Their stories are not only recorded in textbooks but also live on around us..." At approximately 9:00 a.m. on September 1, during the opening assembly at Jinguanyi Branch of Primary School Affiliated to No. 7 Yucai Middle School—alma mater of Marshal Chen Yi—Cheng Ke, Secretary of the general Party branch committee at Jinguanyi Branch, shared historical accounts of the War of Resistance and stories of Marshal Chen Yi's exploits in resisting Japanese aggression. Cheng Ke encouraged students to carry forward the heroes' legacy, remember history, strive diligently, and become exemplary youths of the new era who love the Party and country, demonstrate academic excellence, and pursue all-rounded development.

At the Primary School Affiliated to Chengdu Jinjiang District Institute of Education Sciences, students performed the program "A Red Lantern Illuminating the Mountains and Rivers" under the guidance of instructors from the Chengdu Peking Opera Research Institute. The production deeply integrates multiple artistic forms, including situational drama, Peking Opera, and poetic recitation. Using a red lantern as a symbolic thread, it vividly portrays the spirit of arduous struggle during the revolutionary era.

At the opening assembly of Chengdu Yinghua School, the situational drama "Patriotism Redefined", created and performed by students after viewing the film "Dead To Rights", became the focal point of the event. Through a dialogue between father and son, the play incorporates cases such as "China-made garage kits" and "reverse cultural output by Chinese anime" to guide students in channeling patriotic fervor into a driving force for progress.

At Chengdu Jinguan New City Primary School, commemorating history is translated into concrete actions. During the "Tracing Origins · Eternal Remembrance" segment of the school's opening assembly, a unique summer assignment was highlighted: fifth and sixth-grade students collected the names of 100 heroes who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

By collecting and documenting the heroic deeds behind each name, students gained profound insight into how countless heroes secured peace and happiness through their sacrifices, illuminating the path we tread today.

New Recruits on Campus: Reliving the History of the War of Resistance

On that day, multiple schools in Fucheng District, Mianyang City, integrated revolutionary education and national defense education into their opening ceremonies, using the "First Lesson" activity to guide students in remembering history and fostering their sense of responsibility to the country.

"All rise and sing the national anthem." Before the flag platform, the Five-Starred Red Flag was solemnly raised as representatives of new military recruits from the Chengjiao Sub-district People's Armed Forces Department and all teachers and students of Mianyang Gaoshui Nine-Year Consistent School stood in observance. The new recruit representatives, clad in military uniforms with red scarves and honor flowers, made a solemn pledge under the national flag.

During the "First Lesson" activity, teachers and students collectively watched excerpts from the film "Dead To Rights". The suffering endured by compatriots and their spirit of resistance depicted in the film brought many students to tears. Nie Mengjun, Principal of Mianyang Gaoshui Nine-Year Consistent School, explained that integrating the opening assembly with new recruits' enlistment rituals and incorporating historical footage into classrooms aims to create a comprehensive ideological and political education framework, help students "fasten the first button of life", and enable them to realize the intrinsic connection between personal growth and the country's future.

"Peace did not come easily—it was built with the flesh and blood of revolutionary martyrs," said Xian Peixi, a student at Mianyang Chengmian Road Primary School, during the opening assembly. During the national defense education session, an instructor from a military unit used real case studies to recount the iron-and-blood years of the War of Resistance to all teachers and students, profoundly elucidating the critical importance of national security. All teachers and students also collectively watched a historical short film and engaged in a trans-temporal dialogue with actors portraying forebears, immersing themselves in firsthand historical experiences.

"We hope to plant the seeds of patriotism in children's hearts," said Li Rong, Party Secretary and Principal of Chengmian Road Primary School Education Group. She expressed hope that students would understand the inseparability of personal well-being from national security and grow into visionary, responsible builders of both their families and the nation.
