On September 19, Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Sichuan Provincial People's Congress, met with a delegation led by Jacinta Allan, Premier of Victoria, Australia, in Chengdu.
During the meeting, Wang Xiaohui, on behalf of the provincial Party committee and provincial government, extended a welcome to Premier Jacinta Allan for her visit to Sichuan and provided a brief overview of the province's economic and social development. Wang Xiaohui noted that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of China and Australia, bilateral relations have emerged from a low point and achieved a turnaround. Especially in July of this year, President Xi Jinping met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Beijing, reaching a series of important common understandings on further advancing and improving China-Australia relations. This has also provided clear direction for enhancing exchanges and cooperation between Sichuan and Australia, including its various states. Subsequently, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Sichuan and attended the announcement ceremony for the Chengdu hosting of the Australian Open 2026 Asia-Pacific Wildcard Play-off, demonstrating his high regard for cooperation between Sichuan and Australia. The landing of this event in Chengdu represents a significant milestone in the deepening friendship between Sichuan and Victoria against the backdrop of continuously advancing China-Australia relations, further broadening pathways for enhanced cooperation. This year marks the beginning of the second decade of the China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership, while next year will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the sister-state relationship between Sichuan Province and Victoria. We will earnestly implement the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries. Taking Your Excellency Premier's current visit as an opportunity, we will further enrich the substance of the friendly ties between Sichuan and Victoria, deepen and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in such areas as economic and trade investment, industrial collaboration, education, science and technology, as well as culture and tourism. We strive to achieve more concrete outcomes and contribute to building a more mature, stable and productive comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Australia.
Jacinta Allan expressed admiration for Sichuan's achievements in economic and social development. She stated that Australia-China relations have maintained a sound growth momentum, laying a solid foundation for the continuous deepening of subnational ties between the two countries. She added that the friendship between Victoria and Sichuan has grown stronger over time, with both sides exhibiting strong complementarity and immense potential for cooperation. She expressed Victoria's willingness to actively promote friendly exchanges and collaboration with Sichuan across various sectors to achieve mutual benefit and deliver greater well-being to the people of both regions.
Provincial leaders Chen Wei and Tian Qingying, relevant officials from the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and heads of relevant provincial departments, among others, were also attending the meeting.
