The 35th Hong Kong Book Fair Opens Today
Updated: 2025.07.18

The 35th Hong Kong Book Fair will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from July 16 to 22. Themed "Food Culture • Future Living", this year's book fair will feature over 620 cultural events both inside and outside the venue. As a thematic province of the mainland exhibition area, Sichuan will display a spectacular cultural showcase with more than 500 kinds of premium publications, distinctive cultural creative products, and a rich program of cultural events, presenting an artistic feast of "Splendid Sichuan: Land of Abundance" within its 120-square-meter themed pavilion.

The Sichuan Pavilion, under the theme "Sichuan and Hong Kong: Weaving Culture, Crafting Tomorrow", will embody the imagery of a "flowing river of Bashu culture". Along the timeline from ancient Shu civilization to the new era, this journey will string together the mystery of Sanxingdui and Jinsha, the grandeur of the Shu Roads, the literary brilliance of the Three Sus (Su Xun, Su Shi, and Su Zhe), and the agility of giant pandas. The entrance façade artfully integrates western Sichuan architectural motifs with an overhead textual frieze, creating a harmonious interplay where the bold slogan "Splendid Sichuan: Land of Abundance" commands immediate attention.

The thematic pavilion is divided into three major zones. The Book Zone is like a miniature museum of Bashu culture. Books such as Encountering Sanxingdui and Series of Shu Roads Heritage decode the secrets of ancient Shu. The Best Way to Savor Sichuan and the Album of Shu Embroidery capture local life with vibrant gastronomic and craft documentation. Moreover, children's books like the Mi Xiaoquan series open up a world of childlike fun for kids. In the Integration Zone, the cultural and creative products featuring the giant panda IP are charmingly cute, and the traditional Shu embroidery patterns blend with modern designs to create something truly special. The Activity Zone serves as an interactive stage showcasing the dazzling art of Sichuan opera face-changing and the agile tea-art skills with long-spout kettles, allowing the audience to experience Sichuan's intangible cultural heritage firsthand.

The over 500 kinds of books on the exhibition stands are the "cultural calling cards" that Sichuan presents to the world. National-level award-winning works such as Love China All My Life: Isabel Crook's Stories and Searching for Gan Yu tell the Sichuan chapters in Chinese stories. Dongpo Aesthetics and The Age of Symbols: Belief and Early China inherit the millennium-old cultural context through the fragrance of ink. In the Culture and Tourism of Bashu: The Great Tianfu series, the spicy and savory taste depicted in the "Sichuan Cuisine" volume, the mellow and long-lasting flavor described in the "Sichuan Baijiu" volume, and the gentle and melodious singing in the "Sichuan Opera" volume all subtly echo the "Food Culture" theme of the book fair.

During the book fair, the Sichuan delegation will organize a variety of carefully curated book launches and reading exchange activities, further strengthening the bridge for cultural exchanges and cooperation between Sichuan and Hong Kong. From July 16 to 19, a succession of events will be held, including the sharing session of the Culture and Tourism of Bashu: The Great Tianfu series, the exchange event on Chinese science-fiction creation and publishing, the launching ceremony of new books on Sichuan-Hong Kong "Panda Culture" cooperation and the promotion event of the 2nd Golden Panda Awards. In addition, representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage will perform Sichuan opera face-changing, long-spouted teapot art, and Shu embroidery skills on-site.
