Updated: 2025.04.24

The 2025 Cross-Strait Integrated Development Sichuan Exchange Meeting, themed "Jointly Cultivating New Growth Drivers · Integration Promoting Development", opened in Chengdu on April 22.

Song Tao, Director of both the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, stated in the opening speech that General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that the economies of both sides of the Taiwan Strait are integral to the economy of the Chinese nation, and the people on both sides of the Strait form a community with a shared future. The stable and improving state of the mainland economy paves the way for a broader scope in deepening the cross-Strait integrated development. Confronted with the United States' excessive imposition of tariffs, the mainland swiftly implemented decisive and robust countermeasures, demonstrating its determination to safeguard national development interests, uphold international fairness and justice, and maintain international order and rules. These actions also underline the mainland's confidence in sustaining its economic development. In the face of common risks and challenges, the Chinese people on both sides of the Strait are fully capable of jointly safeguarding development rights and national dignity, thereby continuously strengthening the economy of the Chinese nation.

He emphasized that the Taiwan authorities, led by the Democratic Progressive Party, attempt to erect fences and disrupt industrial and supply chains, actions that harm the competitiveness of Taiwan enterprises, and they puff up "fear of China and hatred of China", which deprives the compatriots in Taiwan of their right to development. Anyone who seeks to split the country is a traitor to the nation, and those who provoke antagonism across the Strait will ultimately harm themselves. We have always shown respect and care for our Taiwan compatriots and worked to deliver benefits to them. We will continue to improve systems and policies that promote economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation across the Strait, expand cross-Strait exchanges and interactions, deepen cross-Strait integrated development, and support Taiwan businesses and enterprises to establish a presence on the mainland for enhanced growth opportunities.

Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Sichuan Provincial People's Congress, extended a welcome to the guests attending the event. He remarked that despite the significant geographical distance separating Sichuan and Taiwan, the bond between the two places is profound, and the cooperation and interactions remain close. Sichuan will thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important expositions on the work related to Taiwan and the Party's overall policy for the new era on resolving the Taiwan question, comprehensively deepen cooperation and exchanges across various fields between Sichuan and Taiwan, and share the new opportunities presented by Sichuan's modernization drive with the Taiwan compatriots.

On April 21, Song Tao met with a delegation led by Liu Chao-shiuan, president of the Taiwan side of the Cross-Strait CEO Summit, who were present for the event. During the meeting, Liu Chao-shiuan expressed that Donald Trump, in disregard of universally recognized economic and trade rules, initiated a global trade war, and the firm countermeasures taken by the mainland have instilled in other economies the confidence and determination needed to stand up against the economic and trade bullying perpetrated by the United States. Cross-strait enterprises should strengthen cooperation, turn crises into opportunities, strive for better development, and thereby contribute to the expansion of the Chinese national economy.

The exchange meeting will take place from April 21 to 27 in cities including Chengdu. It features a range of activities, such as the Sichuan-Taiwan Industry Cooperation Promotion Conference, the Sichuan-Taiwan Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Development Exchange, and the Bashu Culture and Art Festival.
