Sichuan Province and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province of South Korea signed a Memorandum of Establishing Friendly Cooperative Relations on April 15 in Chengdu. Shi Xiaolin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, met with Oh Young-hun, Governor of Jeju Province, and they signed the memorandum on behalf of their respective sides.

During the meeting, Shi Xiaolin welcomed Governor Oh Young-hun on his first visit to Sichuan and provided a brief overview of the province's development. She said South Korea is an important country for Sichuan in foreign exchanges and cooperation, and the mutual cooperation is underpinned by a solid foundation across various fields and demonstrates vast potential. Jeju Province, abundant in tourism resources, is actively advancing industries like green energy. This aligns well with Sichuan's strengths, presenting substantial opportunities for collaborative development. It is hoped that the two sides will work under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, take this signing as an opportunity, further strengthen governmental interactions, deepen economic and trade cooperation, support leading enterprises to enhance industrial collaboration in areas such as new energy and artificial intelligence, promote the interconnection of cultural and tourism resources, expand the scope for two-way tourism growth, make practical efforts to implement the various consensuses reached and to achieve more mutually beneficial and win-win outcomes, enhance mutual understanding among the people, and promote the formal establishment of friendly relations between the two regions at an early date.

Oh Young-hun expressed his delight in visiting the hometown of the giant panda Fubao. He said Jeju Province and Sichuan share numerous similarities in terms of history, culture, and cultural tourism resources. It is hoped that the two sides will fully explore the potential for cooperation in cultural tourism, new energy, and other fields, strengthen the exchange and interaction among university students, promote the establishment of direct flights between the two regions, further enhance economic and trade relations and personnel exchanges, and work together to continuously elevate the friendly relations to new heights.
