The Information Office of the People's Government of Sichuan Province convened a press conference on April 8 at the Sichuan News Release Hall, announcing the lineup for the Sichuan Week at the China Pavilion of Expo 2025 in the Japanese city of Osaka.
The Expo Osaka 2025 is scheduled to take place from April 13 to October 13 in Japan. As the first Chinese province to organize a dedicated week at the China Pavilion, Sichuan presents a comprehensive program aligned with the pavilion's core theme through three thematic dimensions: "Encountering Sichuan", "Experiencing Sichuan", and "Promoting Sichuan". The event is structured around a "1+2+3+N" model: centered around one theme, "Brilliant Bashu Culture, Creating a Better Future"; establishing two venues (online and offline) in Osaka and Sichuan; hosting three key events, an opening ceremony, an exhibition, and a cultural performance; and organizing N supporting initiatives, such as collaborations in promotional campaigns, a children's painting exhibition, municipal (prefecture) spotlight days, and a display of Sichuan goods. The exhibition layout of Sichuan Week draws creative inspiration from classical scroll paintings, complementing the China Pavilion's distinctive bamboo-slip design while also highlighting the unique characteristics of Bashu culture. The event has gathered nearly 50 exhibits of national and provincial intangible cultural heritage, such as panda-themed Shu embroidery, Qiang embroidery masterpieces "Butterflies Among Qiang Flowers", Deyang headgear for Sichuan Opera, and other exquisite traditional crafts. Additionally, replicas of Sanxingdui cultural relics, including the Bronze Sacred Tree, the Bronze Mask with Protruding Eyes, and the Bronze Sun Wheel, will be on long-term display at the China Pavilion. During Sichuan Week, two major thematic performances titled "Essence of Chinese Culture" and "Dance of the Orient" will be featured at the entrance of the China Pavilion. The performances will integrate elements of Sichuan Opera face-changing, tea ceremony, puppetry, martial arts, and more, combined with interactive formats like flash mob surprises and Instagrammable photo opportunities, immersing audiences in the vibrant spirit of Shu culture. In the dynamic display area, master practitioners of guqin, pipa, tea ceremony, and New Year painting will present eight performances daily.
Taking the Expo Osaka 2025 as an opportunity, Sichuan aims to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with Japan in areas such as electronic information, automobile manufacturing, equipment manufacturing, culture and animation, and healthcare and wellness. The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Sichuan Council (CCPIT Sichuan Council) plans to host a "China Sichuan-Japan Economic and Trade Exchange and Business Dialogue Meeting" in Osaka, Japan, on April 28. The event will bring together representatives from some participating countries of the Expo, esteemed Chinese and Japanese enterprises, and delegates from diverse sectors, including culture and tourism. In parallel, a dialogue session between Japan-funded enterprises and Sichuan's government authorities will also take place in Chengdu.
During Sichuan Week, an exhibition area titled "Sichuan Products Shine at the Expo" will be established in downtown Osaka. This area will feature a comprehensive display of enterprises and products from diverse sectors, including food and beverage, chemicals and light industry, geographical indication products, and medical health. Fifty-one prestigious Sichuan-based companies, including Sichuan Energy Development Group, Sichuan Wonaixi New Materials Technology Co., Ltd., and Sichuan Liquor &Tea Group, will be participating in the exhibition.
Cultural and tourism cooperation stands out as another key highlight of this Expo. During Sichuan Week, the province will organize a series of activities, including intangible cultural heritage displays, cultural relics exhibitions, resource promotions, and route launches. Targeting the Japanese industry, Sichuan will introduce its high-quality cultural tourism offerings and facilitate inbound tourism services, promoting the four major brands of "Panda's Home", "Ancient Shu Civilization", "Land of Abundance", and "Leisurely Sichuan". Additionally, several inbound tourism routes will be launched, such as the Sichuan World Heritage Classic Tour, the Sichuan Cute Panda Ecological Tour, and the Sichuan Gourmet Tour.
At the press conference, relevant officials from the CCPIT Sichuan Council, the Department of Cultural and Tourism, the CCPIT Chengdu Council, and the Deyang Municipal Bureau of Commerce introduced the preparations for Sichuan Week at the China Pavilion.
