Sichuan's CPI Up 0.1 Percent Year-on-Year in November
Updated: 2025.12.15

On December 11, data released by the Sichuan Survey Team of the National Bureau of Statistics showed that in November, Sichuan's Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.1 percent year-on-year and decreased by 0.1 percent month-on-month. From January to November on average, Sichuan's CPI decreased by 0.3 percent compared to the same period last year.

An official from the Consumer Price Survey Division of the Sichuan Survey Team of the National Bureau of Statistics stated that in November, influenced by the subsiding effects of the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays and the sustained decline in pork prices, the month-on-month CPI shifted from an increase of 0.4 percent in the previous month to a decrease of 0.1 percent. Year-on-year increases in service sector prices and industrial goods prices contributed to a modest 0.1 percent rise in Sichuan's CPI—the highest since February this year. The growth rate rebounded by 0.7 percentage points from the previous month, indicating an obvious recovery trend.

Specifically, in November, pork prices fell by 2.2 percent month-on-month, with the decline widening by 0.2 percentage points from the previous month. The continued downward trend is primarily attributed to factors such as still-sufficient hog production capacity, shifts in consumption habits, and the arrival of the peak season for mutton consumption. The prices of fresh vegetables and fresh fruit increased by 7.3 percent and 0.9 percent month-on-month, respectively. The rise was mainly due to lower temperatures and higher precipitation in Sichuan during November, which were unfavorable for vegetable and fruit growth. Additionally, as most regions across the country were in the gap period when the autumn vegetable supply was drawing to a close and winter vegetables had not yet been widely available, market supply decreased. The prices of industrial consumer goods remained flat month-on-month. Within this category, influenced by the trend of international gold prices, gold jewelry prices continued to trade at elevated levels, rising by 6.0 percent month-on-month, while silver jewelry prices increased by 6.2 percent month-on-month.

Overall, although Sichuan's CPI remains at a relatively low level, with the introduction and implementation of a series of policies aimed at expanding domestic demand, the positive factors driving price movements are gradually accumulating and emerging. The core CPI continues to strengthen. In November, Sichuan's core CPI—excluding food and energy prices—rose by 0.9 percent year-on-year, maintaining the same growth rate as the previous month. This marks the ninth consecutive month of increase. The official mentioned above noted that the rise in core CPI was influenced, on one hand, by the year-on-year increase in service prices and, on the other hand, it also benefited from the improvement in industrial consumer goods prices driven by broader efforts to curb rat-race competition.
