On November 3, the 2025 World Conference on Innovation and Development in the Display Industry, themed "Displays Everywhere, AI Brightens the World of Vision", opened in Chengdu. Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Sichuan Provincial People's Congress, attended the opening ceremony. Shi Xiaolin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, Xiong Jijun, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Almir Lima Nascimento, Consul General of Brazil in Chengdu and representative of the guest country of honor, and Luigi Gambardella, Founder and President of the ChinaEU, delivered speeches respectively. Cao Lijun, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee, delivered a welcome speech.

Prior to the opening ceremony, Wang Xiaohui, Shi Xiaolin, and other officials visited the innovation achievements exhibition area, where they viewed displays of select innovative products and technologies. Wang Xiaohui pointed out that the new display industry is a quintessential example of new quality productive forces and a competitive sector that the province is dedicated to developing. General Secretary Xi Jinping has placed high expectations on Sichuan's industrial development, issuing multiple important directives that emphasize focusing on distinctive competitive industries and strategic emerging sectors as the main thrust, making forward-looking deployments for future industries, and building a modern industrial system with Sichuan characteristics and strengths. His instructions have provided fundamental guidance for our related work. The World Conference on Innovation and Development in the Display Industry, held in Chengdu for four consecutive years, has become an international platform for cooperation and exchange that fosters technological innovation, resource connectivity, and industrial integration in the new display sector. We should leverage the conference as an opportunity to further capitalize on comparative advantages, enhance policy support, and foster a favorable environment. Measures include attracting and nurturing more leading enterprises in the new display industry, as well as specialized and sophisticated enterprises that master core technologies. It is also crucial to support the establishment of additional industry-academia-research collaborative innovation platforms, strengthen technology R&D and product iteration upgrades focused on industrial frontiers and market applications, and continuously enrich application scenarios, optimize service ecosystems, and expand market space. Chengdu, with its first-mover advantage in the new display industry, should accelerate the extension, consolidation, and strengthening of its industrial chains while fostering clustered development. It should also drive the establishment of a collaborative division-of-labor system across suitable cities and prefectures, thus forming a functionally complementary and efficiently coordinated industrial landscape to collectively advance the high-quality development of the province's new display sector.

In her address, Shi Xiaolin stated that the new display industry is a strategic emerging sector within electronic information and the digital economy, and has become a crucial engine driving industrial transformation and upgrading while empowering better living standards. In recent years, Sichuan has vigorously promoted the new display industry to build a cluster ecosystem and strengthen the industrial chain. The province has secured approval to establish the Chengdu-Chongqing electronic information advanced manufacturing cluster, construct the Mianyang national-level innovative new display industry cluster pilot zone, and set up innovation platforms such as the National Innovation Center for UHD Video Technology. A complete industrial chain spanning "upstream raw materials, midstream display panels, and downstream display applications" has taken shape, with a localization rate of supporting industries exceeding 45 percent. Sichuan now manufactures nearly half of the world's high-end flexible screens and contributes about one-fifth of China's total laser projector shipments. The sector has maintained annual growth of over ten percent for multiple consecutive years and is projected to surpass 200 billion yuan in total output value this year. We will fully implement the plans of the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee on building a modern industrial system. Seizing the opportunity presented by this conference, we will further strengthen the cultivation and application of new technologies, business formats, scenarios, and models in the new display industry, advance its deep integration with fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), ultra-high definition video, and virtual reality, accelerate innovation iteration and green low-carbon development, build an industrial ecosystem through a cluster-chain synergy, advance technology for social good, foster international cooperation, and enhance the sector's development capabilities. We call on all sides to deepen cross-sector collaboration and industry-academia-research coordination, advancing the new display industry from "technology leadership" to "value creation". We sincerely invite friends from home and abroad to innovate, create, invest, and pursue business opportunities in Sichuan. Let us join hands to build a new highland for industrial development and together illuminate a future where "screens connect everything" and intelligence leads the way.

In his address, Xiong Jijun noted that in recent years, China's new display industry has delivered an impressive performance, achieved breakthroughs in scale, innovation, and integration, and demonstrated robust vitality. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will thoroughly implement the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, focus on industrial innovation breakthroughs and major development needs, enhance the development level of key links in the industrial chain, improve the diversified process technology system, strengthen the foundation for industrial growth, and promote the steady and long-term advancement of China's display industry. Sichuan possesses a solid foundation and distinct advantages in developing its new display industry. It is hoped that all participants will leverage this conference as a platform to deepen exchanges and cooperation, share development opportunities, and jointly foster a new and high-quality industrial ecosystem.

In his address, Almir Lima Nascimento stated that Brazil and China have consistently deepened cooperation in politics, economy, technology, culture, and other fields, achieving fruitful results. The conference specially invited Brazil as the guest country of honor, and the Brazilian Consulate General in Chengdu specifically invited the association of Brazilian enterprises in China to organize a corporate delegation to participate, aiming to further deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, technology, and innovation. Today, our vital mission is to make Brazil's industrial strengths widely recognized across China, while also ensuring China's industrial landscape gains deep resonance within Brazil. We look forward to jointly breaking down cognitive barriers and working together to create a brighter future.

In his speech, Luigi Gambardella said that China holds a global leadership position in display screen innovation. Cities like Chengdu have become pivotal hubs for advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, and AI industrial clusters. Meanwhile, Europe also has its own unique advantages, taking the lead in scientific research capabilities, design innovation and other aspects, and achieving breakthrough results in fields such as quantum displays and next-generation new materials. It is reasonable to anticipate that the combination of China's industrial strength and Europe's innovative R&D prowess will successfully forge a cooperation bridge. This will not only strike a balance between scale and sustainability but also truly integrate technology with humanity.

Cao Lijun said in his welcome speech that Chengdu is deeply studying and implementing the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, earnestly implementing the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee, the State Council, as well as the provincial Party committee and the provincial government. Focusing on building "three centers and one base", the city is vigorously promoting the development of key industries such as electronic information to achieve full-scale development in industrial parks and form clusters with complete industrial chains. We hope to continuously deepen innovation synergy and industrial collaboration across various sectors, working together to build a new ecosystem, cultivate new growth drivers, expand new development spaces, and foster new competitive advantages for the display industry. We will adhere to the principle of "responding to all requests and avoiding unnecessary interference", as well as regularly carry out activities to "visit enterprises, resolve difficulties, optimize the environment, and promote development", so as to better support high-quality development of businesses and industries and accelerate the establishment of Chengdu as the world's capital of the display industry.

Wang Fengchao, Mayor of the Chengdu Municipal People's Government, presided over the opening ceremony. At the opening ceremony, the China Center for Information Industry Development released the China New Display Industry High-Quality Development Index (2025). Ouyang Zhongcan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, unveiled ten innovative products and ten innovative technologies (applications). Three domestically developed display devices made their debut on-site, and a number of key projects were signed in a concentrated way. Zhang Rong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Secretary of the Party Committee of Xiamen University, as well as the relevant responsible persons from BOE Technology Group and TEL Group, delivered keynote speeches respectively.

Also present were provincial leaders Chen Wei and Chen Shuping, leading officials of relevant departments and bureaus of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and relevant provincial departments, officials from some foreign consulates general in Chengdu or Chongqing, representatives of international organizations, academicians, experts, and scholars from both home and abroad, representatives of relevant industry associations, enterprises and financial institutions, among others.
