The People's Government of Sichuan Province and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) recently held a scientific and technological cooperation talk in Beijing. The discussions centered on implementing the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), with the aim of enhancing academy-local collaboration and fostering deeper integration between sci-tech innovation and industrial advancement. Hou Jianguo, President and Secretary of the Party Leading Group of CAS, and Shi Xiaolin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, attended and addressed the meeting.

Hou Jianguo expressed his appreciation to the provincial Party committee and provincial government of Sichuan for their long-standing support for the CAS. He noted that in recent years, the CAS and Sichuan Province have carried out substantial collaboration in areas such as breakthroughs in core technologies in key fields, basic research, innovation platform development, high-level talent cultivation, and international sci-tech exchanges, with remarkable achievements attained. Currently, the CAS, in accordance with General Secretary Xi Jinping's important directives of the "Four Pioneering Initiatives" and "Two Accelerations, One Striving", is reinforcing its mission as the main force of national strategic scientific and technological power. Focusing on the core task of seizing the high ground in science and technology, CAS is coordinating and advancing all aspects of reform, innovation, and development. He expressed hope that both sides would jointly implement the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, focus on national strategic priorities, leverage their respective strengths to enhance collaborative innovation and practical cooperation, promote the application and industrialization of major scientific achievements, deepen the integration of technological and industrial innovation, and continuously cultivate and develop new quality productive forces.

Shi Xiaolin expressed gratitude to the CAS for its strong support for Sichuan's development. She noted that over the years, the CAS and Sichuan Province have consistently deepened their collaboration on such areas as building innovation platforms, tackling cutting-edge technologies, and exchanging and cultivating talent, which has yielded substantial results and significantly propelled high-quality development in Sichuan. We are thoroughly implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on Sichuan's work, striving for profound and substantial progress in major national strategies, including the development of the national strategic hinterland, the development of the western region in the new era, and the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, redoubling our efforts in leveraging sci-tech innovation to drive industrial innovation, and accelerating the establishment of a nationally influential sci-tech innovation center. It is hoped that the two sides will jointly implement the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, serve national development goals, give full play to respective strengths, and enhance collaboration. By aligning with the formulation of the 15th Five-Year Plan, the two sides should strengthen original innovation and breakthroughs in core technologies in key fields, accelerate the application and industrialization of scientific and technological achievements in major fields, and lead the development of new quality productive forces.

The two sides also held discussions on key near-term collaborative initiatives between the CAS and the provincial government and outlined plans for the work in the next step.

Also present at the meeting were Wang Keqiang, Vice President of CAS, Sun Xiaoming, Secretary-General of CAS, Dong Weimin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Executive Vice Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, Zuo Yongxiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Mianyang Municipal Committee, Hu Yuankun, Secretary-General of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, and leading officials from relevant CAS departments and provincial agencies, among others.
