Products "Made in Chengdu" Break into Europe's Premium Market
Updated: 2025.10.29

The recent "Connecting Eurasia, Co-building the Future" activity, which saw Chengdu's industrial enterprises expand market opportunities and foster exchanges in Germany and France, has concluded. During the eight-day trip, the "government stages the platform, enterprises put on the show" model facilitated in-depth exchanges between Chengdu and European industries.

Specifically, the 2025 China (Chengdu)-Munich Industrial Cooperation and Matchmaking Symposium facilitated the signing of 21 cooperation projects, with a total value of 8.76 billion yuan. Additionally, the Chengdu business delegation concurrently held ten "Made in Chengdu, Sold Globally" specialized events in Germany and France. These events serve as a crucial gateway for Chengdu's entry into Europe's premium market and a showcase for the robust competitiveness of its manufacturing sector.

Precise Matchmaking

Aligning "Chengdu's Strengths" with "Europe's Needs"

According to a relevant official from the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Economic and Information Technology and the Chengdu Municipal Commission for New Economic Development, the initiative successfully connected "Chengdu's strengths" with "Europe's needs", establishing a precise matchmaking bridge for industrial supply and demand.

The signed projects serve as clear evidence. In the energy sector, Germany is vigorously advancing its Energiewende (energy transition), creating strong demand for green energy. Seizing this opportunity, Chengdu-based enterprises such as Tongwei Group and Tecloman Energy Storage have secured cooperation agreements specifically tailored to Germany's green energy needs. In the high-end manufacturing sector, B&M Tech has entered BMW's supply chain with its leading high-nickel cathode material technology, while Aerofugia secured an order from Germany's TechSAT GmbH for its eVTOL flight control systems. These achievements mark a breakthrough for products "made in Chengdu" in Europe's premium supply chains.

To address the skilled talent shortage facing Chengdu's manufacturing sector, the Sino-German (Pujiang) SME Cooperation Park has introduced the "European Standard Level 3 CNC Technician Training" program, leveraging Germany's world-renowned dual vocational training system. The program integrates the strengths of German vocational education with Chengdu's local talent needs, building a skilled workforce to support the high-quality development of the city's manufacturing sector. "The precise matching under this 'demand-oriented' approach ensures the cooperation is practical and efficient," the above-mentioned official said.

In terms of project implementation, Chengdu will closely monitor the 21 projects signed this time, establishing dedicated work groups that will provide full-process tracking services to ensure their swift and effective launch. Regarding service support and enterprise cultivation, the city will build a full-chain service system for international businesses and nurture a pipeline of globally-oriented companies to enhance their global competitiveness.

Chain Master Enterprises

Spearhead "Fleet Model" for Collaborative Efforts to Go Global

For this event, Chengdu has established a "Fleet Model" where chain master companies take the lead, while small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) coordinate in the global push.

Tongwei Group, a global leader in photovoltaics, not only secured substantial orders during the event but also fully leveraged its role as a chain master company. It facilitated the entry of Tecloman Energy Storage, a partner from the industrial chain, into the European distributed energy market alongside it. This initiative has enabled the SMEs to rapidly access the European market by utilizing Tongwei's resources and channels.

Chengdu International Trade Group has entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with Woltu GmbH, with a core objective of establishing a European distribution network for products "made in Chengdu". This initiative is projected to help companies such as Quanyou Furniture and Guangliang Liquor reduce channel development costs by more than half.

"This model of 'large companies supporting smaller ones' enhances the overall competitiveness of Chengdu's enterprises while simultaneously meeting European partners' demand for integrated supply chain solutions," said a representative of Guangliang Liquor. In the view of this representative, the "chain master enterprise leadership" strategy has not only reduced their market entry costs but also significantly strengthened their negotiating position in European partnerships. For the chain master firms themselves, guiding SMEs in collaborative expansion also helps refine their own industrial chain configuration, enhances supply chain resilience and flexibility, and creates a synergistic effect where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

The "Fleet Model" has also fostered deeper integration between industrial and supply chains. In the new energy sector, Tongwei Co., Ltd., B&M Tech, and Tecloman Energy Storage have established full-chain collaboration covering the spectrum from photovoltaics and battery materials to energy storage. In equipment manufacturing, Shenzhen Kaifa Technology (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. signed a smart meter contract with Ducati Energia. In biopharmaceuticals, Sichuan Xieli Pharmaceutical entered into an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) cooperation with Midas Pharma.

It is learned that Chengdu also plans to establish an industrial cooperation liaison office in Munich, which will serve as an "advanced outpost" for Chengdu-Europe collaboration to promptly align European market demand with industrial resources. Concurrently, the city will upgrade the Sino-German (Pujiang) SME Cooperation Park and promote the establishment of "industrial cooperation friendship city" partnerships, thereby building more robust platforms for companies to access the European market.
