On October 25, Shi Xiaolin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, met with a delegation led by Rob Wagner, President of the Senate of the U.S. State of Oregon.

Shi Xiaolin extended a welcome to Senate President Rob Wagner for his first delegation visit to Sichuan and briefly introduced the development of the province. She noted that since the beginning of this year, President Xi Jinping and President Donald J. Trump have held three telephone conversations and reached a series of important common understandings. The just-concluded fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) made plans for expanding high-standard opening up. Oregon has a long history and a solid foundation in its exchanges with China. The Oregon State Legislature has specifically enacted legislation to strengthen the development of friendly relations with various provinces and cities of China. Sichuan and Oregon share strong industrial complementarity and face common challenges, such as responding to climate change, guiding technological advancement for social good, and improving people's livelihoods, which lay a solid foundation for extensive cooperation. It is hoped that this delegation's visit will serve as an opportunity to further strengthen personnel exchanges at all levels between the two places, deepen economic, trade, and investment cooperation, enhance cultural, tourism, and educational interactions, build more bridges for friendly exchanges among the youth, continuously deepen mutual friendship, solidify the foundation of cooperation, and contribute more to the development of China-U.S. relations and the well-being of the people in both regions.

Rob Wagner remarked that he had already sensed the vibrant dynamism and unique charm of Sichuan the moment he set foot in the province. Sub-national exchanges and cooperation are vital to the relations between the United States and China. This visit to China represents a concrete step in implementing the friendly relations resolution toward China adopted by the Oregon State Senate. It is hoped that Oregon and Sichuan will actively promote personnel exchanges, maintain smooth economic and trade flows, and pragmatically advance exchanges and cooperation in science, technology, industry, culture, education, and other fields, thereby making due contributions to enhancing mutual understanding and trust between the two countries.

Tian Qingying, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Vice Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, Hu Yuankun, Secretary-General of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, and leading officials from the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and relevant provincial departments, among others, attended the meeting.
