Updated: 2025.10.14

The final round of judging for the music category of the 20th Qunxing Award commenced on October 12 at the Opera Hall of the Chengdu City Concert Hall. This key event is part of the 14th China Art Festival.

The final music competition is being conducted in two sessions, featuring 27 selected works from across China, including all provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and other partner institutions. The competing acts delivered a rich spectrum of performances, including instrumental ensembles, performed singing, solo vocals, and a cappella. This variety offered the audience a high-quality and diverse cultural feast.

The final-round entries, notable for their thematic variety and distinct regional characteristics, vividly demonstrate the creators' commitment to a people-oriented approach and drawing inspiration from everyday life. Among them, three performed singing works presented by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, "Strolling Through the Streets of Chengdu", "Family Tree", and "Suo Er Lang Dang Suo", made a notable impression, showcasing a rich blend of Ba-Shu charm and modern themes that served as a vibrant calling card for the province.

Meanwhile, the instrumental ensemble "Echoes of the Silk Road" from Shaanxi Province weaves together traditional Chinese instruments and modern electronic music, offering a fresh cultural reinterpretation of the millennia-old Silk Road. Guizhou Province's entry, "Harmony of the Miao", innovatively merges traditional Miao instruments, flying songs, and a cappella harmonies, showcasing the openness and inclusiveness of ethnic music. Chongqing's entry, "Sweet Joints of Sorghum Stalks", offers a contemporary take on a classic folk song. Its warm, unadorned emotion radiates the unique local flavor of the Ba-Yu culture.

After the final judging, a selection of the outstanding pieces will embark on a grassroots tour as part of a public benefit performance initiative. On October 13, selected competition pieces are staged at two venues: the Mianzhou Grand Theatre in Fucheng District, Mianyang City, and the Ganlu Workshop in Mingshan District, Ya'an City, for the public benefit shows.

The 14th China Art Festival is co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, and the People's Government of Sichuan Province. It is being held from October to November across the Sichuan-Chongqing region. As a centerpiece of the China Art Festival, the 20th Qunxing Award competition is structured in three phases: preliminary, secondary, and final judging. The final round is jointly hosted by Sichuan and Chongqing. The award's final judging kicked off with the mass chorus and square dance from September 23 to 26. The process continued from October 12 to 20, evaluating finalists in music, dance, drama, and quyi, and culminated in the selection of 60 award-winning works and teams.
