Buzzing with Vitality: Sichuan's Cultural Tourism Thrives During National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival Holiday
Updated: 2025.10.11

The 2025 National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday period in Sichuan Province concluded smoothly on the evening of October 8, as the final wave of returning vehicles entered the expressway network. Over the eight-day holiday, Sichuan, through its diverse cultural and tourism offerings and thoughtful public services, made "poetry and far-off destinations" easily accessible. "Reunion plus travel" became the most distinctive hallmark of this holiday period.

Early in the morning on October 1, despite the temperature at the Golden Summit of Mount Emei, standing at an altitude of 3,079 meters, being below 5 degrees Celsius, the tourists' enthusiasm remained undiminished. At dawn, a drone slowly ascended into the sky with an oversized Five-Starred Red Flag hanging beneath it. At the same time, thousands of tourists waved smaller national flags and sang in unison the "Ode to My Homeland", creating a scene both solemn and touching.

During the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, localities across the province delved into the cultural significance of traditional festivals, infusing these time-honored celebrations with fresh vibrancy. During this period, the Wuhou Shrine Museum's themed event, "Full Moon on the National Day: A Fantasy Tour of the Three Kingdoms", attracted a large number of tourists. The Jinsha Site Museum simultaneously launched three characteristic exhibitions and five "Discovering Jinsha's Elegance: Gatherings of Qing Rhymes" activities. The Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum's event, "The Rainbow Feather Garment: An Experience of Tang-style Attire", provided visitors with an immersive cultural experience. Popular attractions, including the Mount Qingcheng-Dujiangyan irrigation system and the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, have been operating at full reservation capacity for several consecutive days, approaching their daily visitor limits.

A series of freshly released statistics further attests to the robust consumption vitality during the holiday. According to the data released by Meituan Travel on October 8, the volume of travel orders on the platform increased by over 30 percent compared to the National Day holiday in 2024. Among the top destinations for cultural and tourism consumption in China, Chengdu claimed the second spot, trailing only Nanjing. Among the top ten destinations registering the greatest growth in hotel bookings on Meituan, Luzhou made the list with an approximately 52 percent year-on-year increase. Additionally, data from Meituan Travel indicated that young adults aged 20 to 30 accounted for more than 50 percent of all flight and train ticket bookings during the holiday period. Meanwhile, the "Amap Street Stars" placed Chengdu at the top of its list of cities with the greatest culinary appeal. Data from Ctrip and Qunar also revealed that Chengdu ranked second among "popular long-distance travel destinations domestically" and fourth on the list of "cities most favored by foreign visitors", respectively.

Traditional festivals are evolving into comprehensive platforms that stimulate consumption and drive regional economic growth. Concurrently, the influence of the "Splendid Sichuan: Land of Abundance" tourism brand has been steadily gaining prominence.
