In the early morning of March 31, construction began on integrating train control signaling, communication, power supply, and other systems for the Sichuan-Chongqing section of the Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway into the Chongqingxi Railway Station hub. This marks the official launch of the transformation project for the Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway incorporating Chongqingxi Railway Station, paving the way for the subsequent integrated commissioning and testing of the Sichuan-Chongqing section of this high-speed railway.

At 23:30 on March 30, more than 500 construction personnel from various units, including China Railway No.4 Engineering Group, China Railway 11th Bureau, and the Chongqing Track Division of China Railway Chengdu Bureau Group Co., Ltd., commenced construction as per the predetermined plan. Throughout the construction, the team navigated challenges such as a complex external environment and limited visibility at night. After approximately 170 minutes of rigorous effort, they successfully dismantled one set of turnouts, removed 0.35 kilometers of track, realigned 0.26 kilometers, and installed a new set of turnouts along with 2.6 kilometers of fresh track laying.

The construction project of Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway incorporating Chongqingxi Railway Station is planned to have three stages. The construction completed this time marks the first stage, which involves track alignment and joining and signal replacement on the Chengdu-Chongqing Expressway's Chongqing-Guizhou connecting downgrade line. This phase has also established the groundwork for converting the track from single to double track, extending from the Jinyingou block post on the Jingxi connecting line to YuKun (Chongqing-Kunming) Yard at Chongqingxi Railway Station. The third stage of construction is anticipated to be completed by the end of May. Upon its completion, the Sichuan-Chongqing section of the Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway will be comprehensively integrated into the national high-speed railway network.

Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway is a crucial segment of Beijing-Kunming channel, a principal route within China's "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" national railway network. The Sichuan-Chongqing section of this line starts from Chongqingxi Railway Station and terminates at Yibindong Railway Station, with a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour. Chongqingxi Railway Station is a pre-existing, special-class station primarily responsible for handling passenger transportation services for trunk railways, including the Chongqing-Guiyang High-speed Railway, the Lanzhou-Chongqing Railway, the Xiangyang-Chongqing Railway, and the Chongqing-Kunming High-speed Railway. Upon the opening of the Sichuan-Chongqing section, the southern Sichuan cities of Yibin and Luzhou will gain direct high-speed rail connectivity to Chongqing, enabling travel within approximately one hour.
