On the morning of April 11, the unveiling ceremony for the Sichuan Artificial Intelligence Academy took place at the Qingshuihe Campus of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC). Huang Qiang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, attended the event and unveiled the academy's plaque.

Currently, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is undergoing rapid development and has emerged as a crucial engine driving the growth of new quality productive forces. The CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and the People's Government of Sichuan Province earnestly implement the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, prioritize AI as the No.1 innovation project for the province this year, provide extraordinary and targeted support, and strive to promote the industrial development to become the first echelon in China, so as to provide robust backing for cultivating new quality productive forces and driving high-quality development. The establishment of the Sichuan Artificial Intelligence Academy represents a tangible initiative by the province to foster new quality productive forces leveraging local strengths.

Spearheaded by the UESTC, the Academy consolidates high-quality resources from universities and research institutes within the province, and renowned enterprises. It is established upon the foundation of the School of Computer Science and Engineering at UESTC. The Academy implements the "1+N" co-construction model that entails collaboration with the government, educational institutions, and enterprises. By integrating institutional innovation across government entities, businesses, universities, research institutions, and application areas, it works to develop a tiered and categorized team of talents who are innovative, versatile and technically proficient. It seeks to foster comprehensive integration in talent development, extending from a single university's efforts to multiple institutes and enterprises' initiatives, and similarly in scientific and technological innovation, scaling from individual teams to collaborative research endeavors. Focusing on addressing industrial development needs, the Academy plans to systematically conduct cross-unit, interdisciplinary, and cross-field collaborative research to achieve significant breakthroughs and directly equip high-quality enterprises with major scientific and technological innovations. The Academy is dedicated to establishing itself as a pivotal talent hub and an innovation highland in the AI field, and thus, it continuously injects a strong impetus for the high-quality development of the AI industry within the province.

At the unveiling event, Vice Governor Zheng Bei delivered a speech, and a leading official from Sichuan Provincial Department of Education read the "Official Reply of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education on Approving the Establishment of the Sichuan Artificial Intelligence Academy". Sichuan Provincial Department of Education, Department of Economy and Information, Department of Science and Technology and UESTC signed co-construction agreements with enterprises and research institutes, including Huawei, Tencent, iFLYTEK, and Nuclear Power Institute of China. Subsequently, Huang Qiang and a head of the UESTC jointly unveiled the Sichuan Artificial Intelligence Academy.

Zeng Qing, Secretary-General of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, heads of relevant provincial departments, Chengdu Municipality, relevant universities and research institutes in the province, representatives from renowned AI enterprises, and representatives of UESTC's faculty and students attended the event.
