On January 30, Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of Sichuan Provincial People's Congress, chaired the Symposium on Building Sichuan into a Province Strong in Sports held by the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee. He emphasized the need to thoroughly study and practice General Secretary Xi Jinping's important statements on sports, give priority to the development of sports in Sichuan's work, promote the coordinated development of mass sports, competitive sports and the sports industry, and make solid progress in building Sichuan into a province strong in sports, so as to better benefit the people and advance people's well-rounded development.

Huang Qiang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, attended and addressed the symposium. Shi Xiaolin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee, attended.

On January 24, Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of Sichuan Provincial People's Congress, visited the Taipingsi Campus of Sichuan Sports College for inspection.

Before the opening of the symposium, Wang Xiaohui made a special trip to Chengdu to investigate the development of the sports. He visited the Taipingsi Campus of Sichuan Sports College, the Chengdu Fiture Technology Co. Ltd., and the Sports Theme Park of Jincheng Lake Park to gain a detailed understanding of accelerating the development of sports vocational education, empowering high-quality development of the sports manufacturing industry with intelligent technology, and promoting the creation of outdoor leisure sports scenes and brand building. Additionally, Wang Xiaohui listened to the report on Chengdu's work in building a world-famous city of sports events. At the symposium, Yang Xingping, Vice Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, reported on the overall situation of Sichuan's construction of a strong province in sports. Heads of the Sichuan Sports Bureau and the Education Department of Sichuan Province reported on their work. People in charge of sports enterprises and sports colleges, as well as representatives of sports circles, including Chen Ke, Lu Junchao, Wang Sizhong, Shu Weiping, and Feng Zhe, delivered speeches successively, offering their opinions and suggestions on promoting the construction of a strong province in sports.

After listening to the remarks, Wang Xiaohui delivered a speech. He pointed out that since the 18th CPC National Congress, General Secretary Xi Jinping has made a series of important statements on the development of sports and systematically expounded the strategic positioning, working pattern, and major tasks of sports development in the new era, providing us with theoretical and fundamental guidance to promote the construction of a strong province in sports. In particular, at the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games held last year, General Secretary Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony and carried out an array of diplomatic activities. Taking Chengdu as a window, he showcased the various aspects of China's modernization to the world, which greatly enhanced the international influence and reputation of Sichuan and Chengdu. This was a milestone event in Sichuan's history of sports development, offering valuable strategic opportunities for the development of sports undertakings and the sports industry in Sichuan. The whole province needs to further deepen ideological understanding and fully recognize that sports are a crucial means to promote people's well-rounded development. Sports development is an undertaking concerned with happiness. It is a sunrise industry and provides an important platform for showcasing cultural soft power and promoting high-level opening-up. It plays an irreplaceable role in building a solid foundation for self-confidence and independence, as well as improving the degree of social civilization. Therefore, we must prioritize the construction of a strong province in sports as a major task in the governance and development of Sichuan in the new era.

Wang Xiaohui pointed out that we need to further improve our ideas and measures to make continuous progress in promoting the construction of a strong sports province. Currently, the development of sports in Sichuan has reached a new historical starting point and is at a crucial stage of transitioning from a major sports province to a strong sports province. In this case, we should speed up improving facilities in national fitness venues, vigorously promote the construction of sports venues and facilities, and enhance the utilization efficiency of venues in an all-round way, to better meet the diverse and multi-level fitness needs of the people. We should comprehensively strengthen sports work for youth, attach equal importance to physical fitness and personality training, integrate sports with education, and coordinate cultural learning with physical exercise. It is necessary to improve the quality of physical education in schools, support extracurricular sports activities, perfect the sports event system for youth, and take multiple measures to promote the all-round and healthy development of teenagers. We should promote breakthroughs and overall enhancement of competitive sports, continuously improve the modernization level of training fields, vigorously cultivate and introduce top-notch sports talents, strengthen the deep integration of sports and technology, and strive to enhance the hard power of building a strong province in sports. We should make more efforts to advance the high-quality development of the sports industry, accelerate the development of the sports manufacturing industry, tap the potential of sports consumption, promote the integration of culture, sports and tourism, and realize the leapfrog development of the sports industry in our province. We should continue to build influential and reputable "Sichuan sports events" brands, systematically summarize the experiences of hosting the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games, further optimize the pattern of sports events, and enhance the quality of the events. We should create conditions to bid for more high-end events, organize innovative sports events for the public, and vigorously develop professional sports events, so as to accelerate the construction of a strong province in sports.

According to Wang Xiaohui, building Sichuan into a strong province in sports is a systematic, long-term, and crucial task that impacts the entire people. We need to further strengthen organizational leadership to provide support and guarantee for the  accomplishment of this task. We must specify responsibilities, strengthen the Party's overall leadership, improve the leadership system and working mechanism for carrying out the work, and form a synergy to push this effort further. We should introduce sound policies to provide a better environment and guarantee for the development of sports. We also need to strengthen the impetus for reform and strive to remove the systemic and institutional barriers that hinder sports development. A major task is to create a favorable atmosphere, encouraging all individuals to participate in sports and support the popularity of sports in Sichuan.

Huang Qiang pointed out that we should thoroughly study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important statements on sports, further improve our political stance, shoulder the responsibility of a major sports province, firmly establish the "grand sports view ", put sports work in a more prominent position, seize opportunities, achieve more outstanding results, and accelerate the building of a strong sports province in the new era. We should learn from the advanced experience, speed up expanding the per capita sports area, create flagship sports events for the public, strengthen the training of reserve talents for competitive sports, carefully organize and hold the 2024 BWF Thomas &Uber Cup and the 2025 World Games, and utilize these events to attract investment, facilitate project implementation, and improve urban quality, thus driving the high-quality development of sports through reform and innovation. We should further tap the potential, enrich consumption patterns, create new scenes for sports consumption, give full play to Sichuan's unique advantages, develop distinctive sports consumption projects, actively seize the opportunity in new tracks, expand and strengthen the sports manufacturing industry, and promote greater development of the sports industry. Preventing risks is an essential task. We should firmly guard the line of defense for work safety, uphold the integrity and discipline of competitions, and safeguard the bottom line of sports safety.

Provincial officials Chen Wei, Zheng Li and Zheng Bei, as well as heads of relevant provincial departments and offices of some central units in Sichuan, attended the symposium or participated in the inspection.
