Updated: 2024.02.28

On February 26, the "Belt and Road" Green and Low Carbon Economy and Trade Promotion Work (Sichuan) Training &The Communication Meeting of Honduras Clean Energy Industry was held in Chengdu. It was co-organized by the Trade Development &Cooperation Center of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the CCPIT Sichuan Council. At the meeting, the Honduran embassy in China interpreted the development and investment needs of the country's clean energy industry, and introduced investment projects in hydropower, photovoltaic, and other clean energy fields. Salvador Moncada, the first Ambassador of Honduras to China, attended and addressed the meeting.

This was the first time that Salvador Moncada had visited Sichuan since assuming office. He pointed out that since Honduras established diplomatic relations with China nearly a year ago, the two countries have shown mutual understanding and worked together, striving for the well-being of mankind and the achievement of peace and prosperity. This effort holds a milestone significance. Honduras, located in the heartland of the American continent, is the second-largest country in Central America and a hub for regional and international trade. It boasts rich biodiversity and water resources. Honduras is embarking on a transformative path towards sustainable development, with clean energy as a key pillar. Significant investments are needed in energy production, transmission, distribution, and storage to create a modern and smart energy matrix.

In 2023, the trade volume between Sichuan and Honduras reached 140 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 37.8%, demonstrating vitality and broad prospects. Sichuan is China's largest clean energy production base and an important R&D and manufacturing base for clean energy equipment. It has outstanding resource endowments, industry agglomeration momentum, and impressive international cooperation, showing great potential for cooperation with Honduras in the clean energy sector.

With natural complementary advantages in the field of green industry, Honduras and Sichuan can establish pragmatic economic and trade cooperation and yield plentiful achievements. Yan Yun, Director of the Trade Development &Cooperation Center of CCPIT, believed that based on Sichuan's favorable industrial advantages and Honduras' natural resource advantages, the two sides can explore cooperation in the fields of clean energy and agricultural products and food. Outstanding clean energy enterprises in Sichuan can share and promote their experience. Combined with Honduras' natural advantages, investment cooperation between the two sides in the clean energy sector is promising.

At the meeting, representatives of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) International Green Development Coalition (BRIGC), the Honduran embassy in China, the Sichuan Provincial Development and Reform Commission, and other institutions delivered interpretations of green and low-carbon policies and promoted relevant industries. Among them, Zhang Jianyu, Executive President of the BRI Green Development Institute at the BRIGC, said that in the field of green and low-carbon energy, Honduras has the demand and Sichuan has the supply. All that is needed is a suitable opportunity, and the visit of the Honduran ambassador to Sichuan is a good chance.
