On March 12, the Office of Sichuan Greening Commission issued the 2022 Sichuan Provincial Land Greening Communiqué. Last year, 32 million Sichuan people participated in the voluntary tree-planting campaign, planting 110 million trees. The forest coverage rate in the province hit 40.26%; the forest stock volume reached 1.944 billion cubic meters, an increase of 10 million cubic meters over 2021; the total output value of the bamboo industry registered 102 billion yuan, 2.9 times more than in 2017.

In 2022, Sichuan initiated the construction of a national scientific greening pilot demonstration province and fully implemented the fine management of afforestation and greening mapping. Throughout the year, the province afforested 372,906.7 hectares of land, of which the planted forests (including reforestation) accounted for 26,733.3 hectares, the forests cultivated by sealing off mountains 76,133.3 hectares, the restored degraded forests 78,466.7 hectares, and the young and middle-aged forests 191,573.3 hectares.

In terms of the protection of ancient famous trees, 87 grade-I ancient trees were added in Sichuan last year. The province funded 11 counties (cities) to pilot the rescue and rejuvenation of ancient famous trees and built 10 provincial ancient tree parks. Through special rectification actions against offenses and crimes of destroying ancient famous trees, Sichuan has been intensifying efforts to protect such trees.

Besides, the bamboo forest area in the province stood at 1,223,333.3 hectares last year, and 36 bamboo forest scenic spots have been built. The annual production capacity of bamboo pulp in the province hit 1.9 million tons.
