According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, P.R.C., the Chinese government has reached an agreement with the Republic of Turkey on the establishment of Turkey’s consulate general in Chengdu in the form of exchange of notes. The two sides agree to Turkey’s establishment of a consulate general in Chengdu, with the consular district covering Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou and Yunnan. This is Turkey's third consulate in Chinese mainland.
Up to now, 21 foreign consulates have been approved to be established in Chengdu, making Chengdu rank third in Chinese mainland and first in the central and western China.
China and Turkey are located at the east and west ends of the Asian continent respectively. The ancient Silk Road and the Maritime Silk Road bear witness to their time-honored friendship. Nowadays, the two countries join efforts in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. The establishment of Turkish consulate general in Chengdu will better integrate Sichuan into the Belt and Road Initiative, and deepen the cooperation between Sichuan and Turkey in such areas as investment, trade, and people-to-people exchanges.
