Updated: 2020.05.09

As of the end of April, 20 of the 39 eco-environmental problems in the Yangtze River Economic Zone handed over by the state to Sichuan Province in two batches had been rectified, and the rectification work of the remaining 19 is well on track.

In 2018 and 2019, the state handed over 20 and 21 eco-environmental problems in the Yangtze River Economic Zone to Sichuan, respectively. As required by the state, Sichuan has combined the four problems left over from 2018 with the 21 new ones handed over in 2019, and set up a new ledger for the 39 problems.

Under the high attention from the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and the Sichuan Provincial People's Government, Sichuan Provincial Supervision Office of Ecological and Environmental Protection has worked to provide a fact-, classification-, and science-based solution that addresses both the symptoms and root causes. It has had authorities concerned prepare and release the Rectification Plan for the Eco-environmental Problems in the Yangtze River Economic Zone of Sichuan Province, and required them to perform the functions of office as watchdog, guider and coordinator, in an effort to make constant progress in the rectification work.

According to the latest progress reports submitted by cities (prefectures) in the province, as of the end of April 2020, 20 eco-environmental problems in the Yangtze River Economic Zone in Sichuan Province had been rectified, of which 16 ones have been removed from the ledger and 4 ones are to be removed. Specifically, the 4 problems include: A large amount of untreated domestic sewage near a sewage treatment plant in Cuiping District in Yibin City is directly discharged to the Yangtze River; a large amount of untreated domestic sewage in the downstream of the Tuojiang Dam in the city proper of Neijiang is directly discharged to the Tuojiang River; about 30,000 tons of sewage daily from Mianyuanhe Urban Sewage Treatment Plant of Deyang City overflows and is directly discharged; the construction of Tangjiadu Electric Navigation and Fengtai Bridge in Suining City has damaged the ecological environment of Fujiang River.
