Chengdu Airport Extends Visa-Free Stepover Policy to 11 Cities

  On October 23, Press Conference of the National Immigration Administration of the People's Republic of China released that with the approval of the State Council, from December 1, 2019, eligible foreigners would have their visa-free stayover extended to 144 hours if transit through Chongqing and Xi 'an air ports. A 144-hour visa-free transit policy would be implemented at Ningbo Airport and would be included into the policy integration of Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai Area, and transit passengers can enter and leave China through Ningbo Airport and sea, land and air ports in Shanghai that had implemented the 144-hour visa-free transit policy, or Nanjing Airport and Hangzhou Airport. The 144-hour visa-free stopover at Chengdu Airport will be extended to 11 cities including Chengdu, Leshan, Deyang, Suining, Meishan, Ya 'an, Ziyang, Neijiang, Zigong, Luzhou and Yibin.

  In recent years, according to the new situation and requirements of deepening reform and opening-up in China, the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China and the National Immigration Administration of the People's Republic of China have formulated and issued a series of policies and measures to facilitate immigration management services, including the introduction of the visa-free transit policy for foreigners. From January 2013 to September 2019, 452,000 foreigners have entered China through this policy, of which 100,000 in 2018, up 24% from 2017.

  After the expansion of the coverage of this policy, 30 ports in 23 cities of 18 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) in China have implemented the 144-hour visa-free transit policy and 72-hour visa-free transit policy to 53 countries in the world.
