The Total Volume of Foreign Cultural Trade in Sichuan Province Exceeding1 Billion USD in 2017

  Recently, our reporter learned from the Provincial Department of Commerce that in 2017, the total foreign cultural trade volume in Sichuan exceeded 1 billion USD, reaching 1.065 billionUSD, with a year-on-year increase of 6.5%. Among them, the total import and export volume ofcore cultural products was 665 million USD, and that of cultural services was approximately 400 million USD. Officials of the Provincial Department of Commerceanalyzed that last year our province’s cultural trade reflected the quality and quantity improvementas well as mutual interaction.

  “Culture + Science and Technology” drives service exports. In 2017, game animation companies of Sichuan got more than 150 million USDin cultural service exports,which accounted for 82.4% ofthe total; mobile game leading companies such as Tap4fun, Digital Sky, and Wind Play, have export volume of over 10 millionUSD annually.

  “Culture + Characteristics” enhances brand influence. The activity of “Sichuan Lanterns Glittering in the Silk Road” continued. 53 Sichuan lantern fairs in 47 cities of 21 countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Franceand Singapore wereheld. The lanternshowshavespeeded up the integration with performances, food, specialty merchandise sales, and tourism for hundreds of companies to “go global”. The exportvolume of silk and woven fabrics, embroidered handicrafts and other specialty productshas reached nearly 100 million USD, driving the development of the silk industry.

  “Culture + Investment” focuses on the “Belt and Road”.The Digital National Chinese Education Platform and India South Asia Publishing Center invested by Xinhua Winshare, and the Cultural Tourism Sustainable Development Project of Cambodian “Dream Angkor” invested by Usunhomewere awarded the title of“National Cultural Export Key Project”.

  “Cultural + Licensing” promotes transformation and upgrading. HuazhenQiangEmbroidery and QingshenBamboo Weaving have cooperated with international brands through licensing such as ShuUemuraof Japan, Starbucks of the United States and Hermes of France; traditional crafts combined with creative designs enhance the added value of Sichuan cultural elements. A group of small and medium-sized mobile game companies successfully came to IP-licensed import and export agreements with channel distributors in the United States, Japan and Europe through well-known exhibitions such as Hong Kong Licensing Expo, Tokyo Game Showand Cologne Games Com.
