On April 1, Huang Qiang, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, went to Chengdu and Deyang to inspect the high-quality development of hydrogen energy industry. He stressed that the two cities should thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 12th group study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, conscientiously act on the gist of the national Two Sessions and the arrangements of the provincial Party committee and government, advance the complementary development of multiple energy resources such as water, wind, solar power, hydrogen and natural gas, accelerate high-quality development, promotion and application across the green hydrogen industry chain, actively embrace new racetracks to foster new quality productive forces, inject fresh momentum into the province's high-quality growth, and contribute more to safeguarding the nation's overall energy security with Sichuan's strengths.

Huang Qiang first came to the Dongfang Electric Hydrogen Industry Sci-Tech Application Demonstration Park in the Deyang Economic Development Zone. There, he learned about the enterprise's layout across the hydrogen industry chain and its representative R&D accomplishments, and conducted on-site inspections of practical applications, including 1-megawatt water electrolysis for hydrogen production and 1-megawatt fuel cell power generation. He commended Dongfang Electric for its pioneering innovation achievements within China, encouraging the enterprise to enhance its publicity, promotion and application efforts, continue upgrading and refinement, and gather strengths to drive the coordinated development of the entire industrial chain. At Xeca Turbo (Chengdu) Technologies Co., Ltd. in the Xindu District of Chengdu, Huang Qiang was delighted to learn the company's fuel cell air compressors had captured over 65 percent of the market share and expressed his hope that the company would maintain its focus on world-class standards and layout more innovative achievements in Sichuan. At Sinotruk Chengdu Wangpai Commercial Vehicle Company in Chengdu's Qingbaijiang District, Huang Qiang learned about the R&D, production, and other aspects of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks. He expressed his expectation for the company to continually reduce costs and capture a larger market share in the alternative fuel-powered trucks. At Sichuan Jinxing Clean Energy Equipment Group in Chengdu's Pidu District and Houpu Clean Energy Co, Ltd. in the CDHT West Area, Huang Qiang toured the exhibition hall and production workshops, where he inspected the R&D, production and export of core equipment, encompassing hydrogen production, transportation and hydrogenation, inquired about the comparison of key indicators for hydrogen energy, fuel oil and lithium batteries, and asked the industry's development trends and its bottlenecks and difficulties. He encouraged everyone to bolster their confidence in the future, enhance independent innovation in core components, and prepare for the batch application of products. Huang Qiang also observed the demonstration of hydrogen-powered drones developed by Chengdu JOUAV Automation Technology Co., Ltd., along with other firms. He encouraged the company to bolster the localized support for key components, consistently enhance the energy density of batteries, expand more application domains, and proactively capitalize on the "favorable wind" presented by the low-altitude economy.
During the inspections, Huang Qiang also heard a report detailing the development of the hydrogen energy industry across the entire province. He pointed out that over a decade of focused development, the province has possessed capabilities in core technology R&D and key equipment manufacturing within the hydrogen energy industry, such as membrane electrodes and air compressors, and has also accomplished a whole industrial chain layout and developed a full technical pathway. Moreover, with a diverse range of hydrogen sources and vast market potential, the acceleration towards high-quality development in hydrogen energy has reached a pivotal point after long-term accumulation in the province. Sichuan is expected and able to take a leading role in this industry and contributes more to energy security—one of the country's most fundamental interests. We must intensify ongoing efforts to achieve breakthroughs in core technologies and key equipment, ensuring they are independently and controllably advanced, establish innovation consortia with enterprises as the main force, highlight original innovation, enhance collaborative research on addressing scalability challenges in critical areas such as key materials, fuel cells, and storage and transportation technologies, accelerate improvements in key performance indicators, and foster more transformation of sci-tech achievements in Sichuan. We should continuously fortify the development of the entire hydrogen energy chain, encompassing production, storage, transportation, refueling and application, along with equipment manufacturing, incubate a range of major projects and high-caliber enterprises, leverage the leadership of chain champions, intensify initiatives to attract new chains, shore up weak links in existing chains, and reinforce their established strengths, accelerate the growth of industrial clusters, and develop a batch of notable product landmarks. We should continuously enhance application scenarios' traction force, actively explore typical scenarios, bolster the demonstration and application of hydrogen energy in transportation and other sectors, strategically plan and layout infrastructure like hydrogen refueling stations, expedite the advancement of hydrogen-powered aviation, leverage the prime opportunity presented by World Games 2025 Chengdu for comprehensive application, exhibition and promotion, and drive iterative product enhancements and cost reductions.
