International Trade Bases Help Sichuan's Agricultural Products Speed up to Go Global
Updated:2022.12.08

According to a recent promotion meeting on the construction of high-quality development bases for international trade in agriculture in Sichuan Province, the export of agricultural products from six national-level international trade bases and ten provincial-level ones in the province has continued growth since 2022.

Driven by international trade bases, Sichuan's agricultural products have maintained good momentum for going global. According to the statistics of Chengdu Customs District P.R.CHINA, in the first 10 months of 2022, the value of Sichuan's exported agricultural products reached 7.53 billion yuan, up 63.0% year on year.

On November 11, China (Sichuan) Huayi Tea Industry Warehouse in Uzbekistan was inaugurated in Fergana Region. This is the first overseas tea warehouse established by a tea enterprise of Jiajiang County for export trade in Central Asia, and also a new base for Jiajiang's tea to expand overseas markets.

"The establishment of an overseas warehouse can shorten the delivery time of tea products by more than 30 days, which can save costs and stabilize the market," said Fang Yikai, Chairman of Sichuan Huayi Tea Industry Co., Ltd., who added that the establishment of the base in Uzbekistan was supported by Jiajiang's international trade base for tea export. To promote the export of tea, Jiajiang County has built export tea filing bases in line with the standards of the European Union. At present, these bases cover an area of about 100 square kilometers in total. "This year, the city's tea export volume reached 38,000 tons, with the export value being about 1.13 billion yuan, an increase of 8.6% and 2.7% respectively compared with last year," introduced the relevant head of Leshan Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

"Driven by a number of national-level and provincial-level international trade bases, the export of agricultural products in the province has maintained good momentum," said head of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Relying on the flower and tree supply network of "purchasing and selling around the world", Wenjiang's international trade base of flowers and trees achieved an export value of 10.42 million U.S. dollars in 2021. Last year, Tianquan County earned more than eight million U.S. dollars from the export of caviar and processed aquatic products. In the past three years, the international trade base of sweet rice wine in Dazhu County drove the export of more than 4,000 tons of sweet rice wine, with the total export value reaching 6.7 million U.S. dollars. Late-maturing mangoes in Renhe District of Panzhihua have been exported to more than 10 countries such as Russia, Singapore, and Vietnam, with a cumulative export growth rate topping 100% in the past three years and the cumulative export value exceeding 50 million U.S. dollars. Since 2021, 3,785 tons of Sichuan's tea, worth 10.73 million U.S. dollars, has been exported to Uzbekistan through a special train for Central Asia.

Recently, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs rated 10 units as the first batch of provincial-level international trade bases together with the Sichuan Provincial Department of Commerce and Chengdu Customs District P.R.CHINA. This year, the province included another 23 international trade bases in the list of provincial-level international trade bases (under construction) and will rate a new batch of such bases.

"After being rated as provincial-level international trade bases, financial support will be provided." According to the Sichuan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the organizational guarantee will be stronger for both the national-level and provincial-level international trade bases that have been approved and the ones under construction.

"We will help more Sichuan-produced agricultural products to go global and develop diverse agricultural exporters." Xu Bin, Chief Agronomist of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said that the province will build an array of international trade bases in phases with rich industrial clusters and high production standards, export added value, brand recognition, and comprehensive service level. It aims to achieve that the annual export volume of each type of products in the identified bases accounts for more than 30% of the total annual export volume of such products in the province by 2025.
