Sichuan's Jan-Feb Ambient Water Quality Report Released
Updated:2021.03.29

The province released the ambient water quality report for the first two months of this year. According to the report, the ambient water quality across the province has been continuously improved, with good or excellent water quality found in 189 of 203 nationally monitored sections, accounting for 93.1%. Of 87 nationally monitored sections during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, 85 have good or excellent water quality, accounting for 97.7%.

In 2020, the province eliminated worse-than-Grade-V water in all the nationally monitored sections, which was the objective set by the central government. Even sections with Grade V water were also eliminated, all the 10 outbound sections met the good or excellent water quality standards, and the Minjiang River basin met all the standards for the first time. The province's ambient water quality rose to the 8th place from the 19th among the 31 provinces (prefectures or municipalities) in the early 13th Five-Year Plan period.

This year, the province has continued the efforts to enhance the ambient water quality. According to the report, good or excellent water quality was found in 126 of 140 provincially monitored sections, accounting for 90%, in the first two months. Sections with good or excellent water take up 100% in nine cities (prefectures), such as Panzhihua, Ya'an and Ganzi, and 90% in five cities (prefectures) including Chengdu and Deyang. In addition, good or excellent water quality was found in all the nationally monitored sections in the seven basins, namely the Jialing River, Yalong River, Qingyi River, Chishui River, Dadu River, Anning River and the Yellow River.

Efforts will be intensified to further implement the action plan of water pollution prevention and control with the focus on the Tuojiang River, Minjiang River and Fujiang River, and significantly reduce the total amount of main pollutants' emissions in a bid to ensure the continuous improvement of the ambient water quality in the whole province.
