According to the data released by the Sichuan
Investigation Corps of the National Bureau of Statistics on March 11, Sichuan
Province's CPI fell by 0.9% year on year this February.
The fall was driven by price decreases in
some groups, including foods, beverages, and tobacco group by 1.4%, which
pulled the CPI down by about 0.42 percentage points. In the group, the price
levels of pork dropped by 20%, bringing the CPI down by about 0.72 percentage
points, and those of poultry meat declined by 7.5%, with chicken down by 11.8%.
Meanwhile, the items in the group that experienced price increases were fresh
vegetables, edible oil, grain and dairy products, with the first two up by 5.3%
and 5.9%, respectively.
In addition to the foods, beverages, and
tobacco group, three other groups saw an increase and four other groups saw a
decrease in the index. Specifically, the price levels of daily necessities and
services, health careas well as other supplies and services rose by 0.1%, 1.7%
and 0.5% respectively; those of clothing, housing, transportation and
communication as well as education, culture and entertainment slid by 1.4%,
0.5%, 2.3% and 1.4% respectively.
In terms of month-on-month change,
Sichuan's CPI grew by 0.6% this February. Specifically, the price levels of
urban and rural areas increased by 0.7% and 0.5% respectively; and those of foods,
non-food items, consumer goods, and services went up by 0.2%, 0.7%, 0.3% and
1.1% respectively.
Moreover, the data also showed a four-month
rise in Sichuan's PPI and IPI. Of all the 39 sectors covered by PPI, 24
increased, 9 decreased, and 6 leveled out in the index. It can be seen that the
proportion of sectors that experienced a decrease in PPI reached 23.1%, up 5.2
percentage points than last month.
