Sichuan released the ambient water quality report for the first nine months of this year. From January to September 2021, 191 of the 203 nationally monitored sections in the province had good or excellent water quality, accounting for 94.1%, according to the report. Of 87 nationally monitored sections during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, 86 had good or excellent water quality, accounting for 98.9%.

　　This year, the ambient water quality in Sichuan has been improved steadily. The report shows that from January to September 2021, good or excellent water quality was found in all the monitored sections in nine cities (prefectures), including Ya'an, Panzhihua, Ganzi and Guangyuan, and more than 90% of those in six cities (prefectures), including Chengdu, Deyang, Leshan and Luzhou. Good or excellent water quality was found in all the nationally monitored sections in eight river basins, namely Yalong River, Anning River, Dadu River, Jialing River, Fujiang River, Qingyi River, the Yellow River and Chishui River. In addition, good or excellent water quality was found in 97.1% of 35 nationally monitored sections of the Yangtze River (the main stream of Jinsha River), 96.2% of 26 nationally monitored sections of the Minjiang River basin and 95.5% of 22 nationally monitored sections of the Qujiang River basin.

　　The province will continue to focus on the improvement of ambient water quality in key areas such as the basins of the Tuojiang, Minjiang and Fujiang Rivers, strengthen the efforts to prevent and control water pollution, ensure the continuous improvement of ambient water quality in the province, and effectively build the ecological shield in the upper reaches of the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, according to an official at the Section of Water Ecology and Environment, the Department of Ecology and Environment of Sichuan Province.
