On October 9, Peng Qinghua, Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee, met in Chengdu with representatives of Sichuan's outstanding athletes and coaches who had participated in the 32nd Olympic Games and the 14th National Games of the People’s Republic of China, and extended warm welcome for their returning with great honors. In addition, he encouraged them to continuously live up to the expectations of General Secretary Xi Jinping, further carry forward the Chinese sportsmanship, strive for progress from a new starting point, seek excellence, surpass themselves, and win glory for Sichuan and China.

　　On behalf of China, 13 athletes from Sichuan contributed one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal at the 32nd Olympic Games held not long ago. At the just concluded 14th National Games, Sichuan's athletes won a total of 80 medals including 30 gold medals in competitive sports and mass sports, creating the best result in the history of Sichuan's participation in the National Games. During the meeting, Peng and Huang shook hands with the representatives of Sichuan's outstanding athletes and coaches who had participated in the two events. On behalf of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee, the People's Government of Sichuan Province, and all people in Sichuan Province, they congratulated them on their excellent performance and expressed gratitude to all the athletes and the relevant units and personnel who worked ardently behind the scenes.

　　Peng said that since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core has attached great importance to sports. General Secretary Xi Jinping has attended a lot of major sports events and made many important speeches on sports. He attended the opening ceremony of the 14th National Games in person, during which he met representatives of advanced sports units and individuals and representatives of the Chinese delegation to the Tokyo Olympics, encouraging them to work hard for more achievements. With General Secretary Xi Jinping's advice and expectations, we should have a strong motivation to carry out training and prepare for competitions. In recent years, the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and the People's Government of Sichuan Province have earnestly studied and implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping's important remarks on sports, focused on building a province with strong sports and running sports to the satisfaction of the people, delivered a lot of fruitful performance in the coordinated development of mass sports, competitive sports, sports industry, and sports culture, and thus strongly promoted the high-quality development of sports in Sichuan Province. It is suggested that all of us make continuous improvement without a halt and vigorously practice the Olympic spirit of "higher, faster, stronger, more united" and Chinese sports spirits of "Lifelong Struggle". He encouraged all athletes to fully demonstrate the style of Sichuan sports in all kinds of competitions. CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and the People's Government of Sichuan Province will continue to value the development of sports and create a favorable environment for the development of competitive sports and mass sports. Sports Bureau of Sichuan Province and other relevant units should further innovate the mechanism of training, selecting, and motivating sports talents, optimize the layout of competitive sports and mass sports. Meanwhile, it is necessary to show more cares to athletes and coaches so that they can devote themselves to training and events without distractions, and continuously create a new record for the development of Sichuan sports.
