Sichuan and Chongqing Plan to Build 16 Sichuan-Chongqing Expressways by 2022

  Sichuan and Chongqing plan to build 16 Sichuan-Chongqing expressways, and upgrade 9 average national highways to second level and 11 average provincial highways to third level or above by 2022. At the meeting to promote the coordinated development of transportation of surrounding areas of Sichuan and Chongqing held in Dazhou on July 2, the Department of Transportation of Sichuan Province and the Chongqing Municipal Transportation Bureau signed the Three-year Action Plan for Integrated Transportation Development under the Building of Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle (2020—2022) and cooperation memoranda on five aspects of average highways, inland water transport, intelligent transportation, law enforcement and management, and Wanzhou District-Dazhou City-Kaizhou District integrated development. Besides, Sichuan and Chongqing also signed a cooperation memorandum on transportation service integration in this April. Since then, a cooperation framework for Sichuan-Chongqing transportation integrated development integrating six memoranda and a three-year action plan is formed.

  As per the action plan, the two sides will work together to build a Chengdu-Chongqing international comprehensive transportation hub, promote the result-oriented pilot program of transportation integration under the building of Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle as part of developing national transportation strength and accelerate the building of a multi-layer one-hour transportation circle; create a denser Sichuan-Chongqing expressway network, expedite the construction of expressways such as Chengdu-Tongnan via Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, Chongqing-Guang'an expressway branch and Luzhou-Yongchuan expressway, start the construction of expressways including Nanchong-Tongnan, Neijiang-Dazu, Kaijiang-Liangping, G76/G85 Chengdu-Chongqing (capacity expansion), G93 Suining-Chongqing (capacity expansion), G93 Luzhou-Chongqing (capacity expansion), Tongliang-Anyue, Chongqing-Hejiang-Chishui and Dazhu-Dianjiang-Fengdu-Wulong in the next three years; complete the arterial road nework of the surrounding areas of Sichuan and Chongqing, speed up the upgrade and improvement project for a batch of arterial roads of S202 Linshui County-Sichuan/Chongqing, and improve narrow road sections in the surrounding areas of Sichuan and Chongqing.

  By 2022, 24 outbound expressway channels from Sichuan and Chongqing (13 ones from Sichuan and 11 ones from Chongqing) will be built; the length of high-level Sichuan-Chongqing water course at the fourth level or above will reach 3,100 kilometers (1,700 kilometers in Sichuan and 1,400 kilometers in Chongqing); the container throughput capacity of ports will reach 7.6 million TEUs (2.6 million TEUs for Sichuan and 5 million TEUs for Chongqing).

  In the meanwhile, both sides will open at least 13 intercity buses between the surrounding areas of Sichuan and Chongqing, promote the availability of one's bus and metro card and QR code in the other's places under the building of Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, ensure one's access to the other's ticket booking system platform data, realize Chongqing-Chengdu line and ticket information sharing, develop together booking, customization and other passenger transport services, and satisfy people's personal travel needs.
