Updated:2020.01.09

The Spring Festival travel rush in 2020 will begin on January 10 and end on February 18, lasting for 40 days. According to news from the 2020 Sichuan Spring Festival Travel Rush Teleconference held on January 7, Sichuan's passenger volume is expected to reach 130 million during the Spring Festival travel rush.

In the early stage of the Spring Festival travel rush, students, migrant workers, family visits, tourist trips will cause overlapping pressure to railway transport. It is estimated that Sichuan will see 23.5 million railway trips during the Spring Festival travel rush this year, up 10 percent year on year. 481 pairs of passenger trains are scheduled to run before the Spring Festival, with an increase of 54 pairs year on year; 475 pairs of passenger trains are scheduled to run after the Spring Festival, with an increase of 55 pairs year on year. In the meantime, four pairs of slower trains within Sichuan Province will continue to run, facilitating the transportation of people in poverty-stricken areas during the Spring Festival travel rush.

To ensure safety during the Spring Festival travel rush, Sichuan Provincial Economic and Information Department has taken the lead in handling the potential safety hazards threatening the Spring Festival travel rush, and required leading departments for the Spring Festival travel rush to establish and improve emergency plans and improve emergency response capacity. Local public security organs will work with emergency response departments and transportation departments to identify and rectify potential safety hazards. In addition, uncivilized behaviors like making trouble on the train or plane and forcibly occupying a seat will be severely punished.

To ensure convenient Spring Festival travel, Sichuan will increase the transport capacity of key areas such as passenger transport hubs and scenic spots, strengthen the transport connection such as passenger transport within and outside a city, and strengthen the dynamic monitoring of ETC door frame, toll collection system and overload control system to ensure the traffic efficiency. Major efforts will be made to ensure the transportation services for migrant workers' safe return, and further improve the environment of waiting areas, so as to improve travel experience.

Wang Fengchao, Vice Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, attended and addressed the teleconference.
