China's First Trading Center for Green Sichuan Pepper Opens in Sichuan
Updated:2019.07.05

Recently, Pingchang-Qingtian West-East Cooperative Poverty Alleviation Creativity and Entrepreneurship Industrial Park ("the Park") was put into operation, and China's first trading center for green Sichuan pepper also opened in Pingchang.

The Park is a poverty alleviation and assistance project acknowledged by Qingtian County, Zhejiang Province and Pingchang County, Sichuan Province. Covering an area of 100 mu (one mu equals to 666.67 m2), the Park consists of Green Sichuan Pepper Trading Center, Special Agricultural Products Trading Center, Sichuan Pepper Deep Processing Workshop, Theme Pavilion for Agricultural Products, Sichuan Pepper Experience and Display Pavilion, and Qingtian Pavilion. It is estimated that over 100,000 tons of fresh Sichuan pepper would be traded and processed here each year.

On the same day, the Sichuan Pepper Trading Center ("Trading Center") of Pingchang County Tianfu Commodity Exchange also opened in the Park. Approved by Sichuan Provincial Bureau of Financial Work, the Trading Center is co-built by Tianfu Commodity Exchange and Bashan Tianxiang Sichuan Pepper Co., Ltd. of Pingchang County. According to relevant responsible person of the Trading Center, the objective is to build the Trading Center into China's largest, professional trading center for Sichuan pepper and related products by 2022.

Currently, Sichuan pepper bases of 350,000 mu have been built in 43 towns and townships of Pingchang County. Now it is the time for Sichuan pepper picking, and many farmers are taking Sichuan pepper to the Park for off-line deals. "These days, the price of fresh Sichuan pepper is about RMB 4/jin (one jin equals to half kilo), somewhat lower than that last year. But this year, more purchasers have come to Pingchang to buy Sichuan pepper. That is why we do not worry about the sale." Yang Yong, responsible person of Pingchang Junhong Specialized Agricultural Cooperative, is watching the trading price of Sichuan pepper on the big screen in the Trading Center. In 2017, he acquired 1,350-mu land via farmland transfer for Sichuan pepper planting in Qingyun Village, Tanxi Town, Pingchang County. This year, the land was put into production for the first time.

As the Park is put into operation, 51,000 villagers of 17,000 households in 360 villages and 104 poverty-stricken villages  in 43 towns and townships of Pingchang County will be all beneficiaries.
