The Second Sichuan Art Festival Kicks Off

  On the evening of July 16, the second Sichuan Art Festival opened in Chengdu. Yin Li, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of Sichuan Province, declared the opening of the festival.
It is the highest-level comprehensive cultural and artistic event in Sichuan Province. Sponsored by the provincial government, this festival is an important part of series of events that Sichuan Province holds to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. It will host 19 activities in three fields, including main activities, professional competitions and extension activities.

  The main activities include exhibitions and performances of excellent stage plays, exhibitions of fine works of art, exhibitions of calligraphy seal cutting works, and Sichuan Wenhua Award and Sichuan Galaxy Award. During the festival, 31 excellent plays, including traditional (Chinese) opera, stage plays, child plays, operas, dance dramas, and musical dramas, will be staged. Of these, most are new plays created by troupes and colleges over the past three years. At the same time, more than 300 pieces of traditional Chinese painting, oil painting, engraving, sculpture, and calligraphy seal cutting works will be exhibited. Based on these exhibitions, Sichuan Wenhua Award for plays, performances and fine arts and Sichuan Galaxy Award for music, dance, Quyi (referring to such Chinese traditional art forms such as ballad singing, Pingshu, comic dialogues, clapper talks and xiangsheng), and drama (sketches).

  Professional competitions will cover Sichuan Comic Dialogues Competition, Sicuan Quyi, Acrobatics, Puppet Show and Shadow Puppetry Competition, and Sichuan New Dance Competition. These competitions, sponsored by Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, aim to seek new art talents and present new art works. More than 500 works from all over the province will contend for the award. Meanwhile, these works will be staged for the public in communities and scenic spots or be presented in the form of flash performance.

  Extension activities will consist of nine activities, including three such series as Bring Art to Community, Campus and Life. Troupes, calligraphy sealing cutters, photographers and award-winning works of Galaxy Award will be introduced into communities and scenic areas to present performances for the public, attracting more people to theaters, galleries and spots of art festivals.

  After the opening ceremony, Red Poppies presented by the Sichuan Song and Dance Theatre, will be staged as the opening performance.

  Gan Lin, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Director of the Publicity Department, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. And Vice Governor Yang Xingping presided over the opening ceremony.
