On June 9, Mr. Yin Li, Vice Secretary of Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC, Governor of People’s Government of Sichuan Province, met with Mr. Ottone, the Assistant Director-General of UNESCO, and his party.
Mr. Yin Li welcomed Mr. Ottone and his party to attend the International Conference on the Future of Historic Villages and Towns in Meishan, Sichuan. He said that Sichuan with its long history of culture forms a distinctive part of Chinese culture. We attach great importance to the protection, inheritance and promotion of history and culture. At present, Sichuan is implementing the strategy of rural revitalization to make the protection of ancient buildings and local customs part and parcel of the strategy, and to strive to achieve an organic combination of historical culture and modernization. At this meeting, mutual learning is encouraged to promote the popularization of way adopted in protecting ancient villages, and promote the development of world cultural exchanges.
Mr. Ottone said that Sichuan's rural revitalization and cultural heritage have achieved remarkable results. UNESCO is willing to function as the bridge to introduce the good practices of Sichuanand bring fine foreign experiences to Sichuan to jointly promote the protection and inheritance of ancient villages around the world.
