At the first International Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Industry Conferenceopened in Chengdu on April 22nd, Chengdu officially launched the project of “Green Hydrogen Capital”. China Dongfang Electric Corporation and GuodianDadu River Basin Hydropower Development Corporation and other seven units have also jointly initiated the establishment of Chengdu Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cell Industry Development Promotion Association, which will integrate nearly 40 enterprises and research institutes as well as the main body of investment and financingin the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain to jointly cultivate new forms of hydrogen energy. This will unleash a positive signal that Sichuan's integrated resources have gradually turned the hydrogen energy industry into a key pillar industry.

　　Hydrogen is regarded as the most promising clean energy in the 21st century because of its high efficiency, cleanliness and safety. The hydrogen energy and fuel cell industry chain, with strong driving effect and wide application range, involves many links such as hydrogen production, hydrogen storage and hydrogen transport, hydrogen station construction and operation, and hydrogen fuel cell research and development. According to the International Hydrogen Energy Commission, hydrogen energy is expected to account for 18% of global energy demand by 2050, and its development potential is huge.

　　At present, countries such as the United States, Japan and South Korea have elevated the development of hydrogen energy into a national energy strategy. China has also issued a series of policies to take the comprehensive utilization of hydrogen energy as a key development direction, and guided the development of hydrogen energy and fuel cell industry. This year, hydrogen energy has madeinto the Report on the Work of the Governmentfor the first time.

　　Sichuanowns both resource advantages and industrial base for the development of hydrogen energy and fuel cell industry. At present, hydrogen production mainly includes natural gas reforming hydrogen production, electrolysis water hydrogen production and industrial by-product hydrogen production. There are advantages in all three aspects of Sichuan Province. Sichuan boasts large water resources, and a large amount of surplus hydropower has made it possible for reducing the cost of hydrogen production from electrolyzed water. At the same time, natural gas resources are abundant, accounting for about 19% of the national total. The petrochemical industry has a good foundation, which provides guarantee for hydrogen production from natural gas reforming and industrial by-product hydrogen production.

　　Industry insiders predict that hydrogen energy will form an important part of China's new energy strategyby 2030, and its output value will exceed 1 trillion yuan. Previously, Sichuan proposed to increase the hydrogen energy and fuel cell industry to 100 billion yuan by 2025.
