| Sichuan Province Is to Cover 9 Million Mu of Land with Plants This Year |

On March 15th, at the work conference for Sichuan's forestry and grassland work and the construction of party conduct and clean government held in Qingchuan County of Guangyuan City, the afforestation target of Sichuan Province was proposed for this year: within this year, Sichuan is to cover 9 million mu of lands with plants. On that basis, the forest coverage rate in Sichuan is to increaseby 0.8 percentage points to 39.63%.
This year marks the fourth year of Sichuan's launch of a large-scale greening campaign. In the previous three years, Sichuan has completed a total of 34.9 million mu of afforestation, and the areas of barren hills and slopes in Sichuan have been greatly reduced. Regarding this reality, this year, Sichuan has clearly defined the key points to improve the coverage of plants and maintain the previous work efforts, so as to bring about an increasein the quantity and quality of ecological well-being.
Specifically, in terms of “enhancing quality and efficiency”, Sichuan has mainly focused on improving the ecological function area of the Ruoergai wetland, enhancing the ecological functional area of the Sichuan-Yunnan forest or areas with biodiversity, consolidating the biodiversityof the Qinbaecological function area, conserving thewater and soilof Daliangshan and Xiaoliangshan and theirthe ecological biodiversity functional zones, rehabilitating the main stream of the Yangtze River and important tributaries. Taking these five major moves as the starting point, Sichuan will consolidate its ecological reserves and strengthen afforestation between regions, cities, as well as between urban and rural areas.
In terms of “greenery protection”, this year, Sichuan will take more measures to control thedamage rate from fire in forests and grasslands, from forestry pest disasters and livestock overload within 1‰, 3‰ and 9% respectively.
In terms of “growing greenery”, Sichuan will focus on the “two parks and one place” of the Giant Panda National Park, the Modern Forestry Park, and various nature reserves, and it will integrate institutions and strengths to promote the construction of special towns and community development. At the same time, relying on the local ecological resources, it will devoted efforts to building science and technology parks for forest and grass, ecological economic parks and characteristic industrial parks, and strive to achieve a total output value of 400 billion yuan.
