On the morning of October 31, the Award Ceremony for 18thSocial Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award in Sichuan Province was held in Chengdu, solemnly commending the outstanding achievements of social sciences and the specialists and intellectuals who had made outstanding contributions to Sichuan's development of philosophy and social sciences from 2016 to 2017, and inspiring philosophy and social sciences workers in Sichuan to step into a new era and make new achievements.

　　The Sichuan Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award, set up by the People's Government of Sichuan Province, is the highest-level award in the field of social sciences in Sichuan Province. It is also an important platform to show Sichuan's level, results and strength of social sciences research and the award ceremony is held every two years. According to the relevant regulations and procedures, Sichuan started the selection work in July 2018. Philosophy and social sciences workers and all sectors of society paid great attention to and actively participated in the appraisal. A total of 7,120 achievements were evaluated, involving many disciplines such as Marxism-Leninism, Party history and Party building, economics, management, law, sociology, history, ethnology, etc. Through strict evaluation procedures, 400 awards were finally selected, including one honorable mention, 20 first prizes, 80 second prizes and 299 third prizes, which showed Sichuan's fruitful achievements in philosophy and social sciences research in the past two years.

　　Gan Lin, member of the Standing Committee and Director of Publicity Department of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. On behalf of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and the People's Government of Sichuan Province, he expressed warm congratulations to the experts and scholars who won the award and paid high respect to the philosophy workers of social sciences in Sichuan Province. He hoped that the experts and scholars would further strengthen their sense of mission and responsibility, find out the gaps, define the directions of their work and strive for excellence, so as to promote Sichuan to be a strong province of social sciences from a big province of social sciences. Experts and scholars should hold high the ideological banner, be the main force in the dissemination of theories, firmly take Xi Jinping's Thoughts of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era as a guide, actively study and disseminate the innovative theories of the Communist Party of China, and guide officials and the masses to understand and grasp them more accurately so as to better guide practice work. They should strengthen their cultural confidence, be the inheritor of the culture, adhere to the integrated inheritance of Chinese excellent traditional culture, revolutionary culture and advanced socialist culture, and better demonstrate the Chinese characteristics, Chinese style and Chinese manner of philosophy the social sciences. Experts and scholars should take the initiative to serve the overall situation, be think tanks for the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and the People's Government of Sichuan Province, focus on major theoretical and practical issues, learn experience from the other countries in the world, conduct researches nationwide, and seek countermeasures based on Sichuan's actual situation, so as to provide scientific, professional, pragmatic and useful advisory services for the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and the People's Government of Sichuan Province. They should adhere to moral cultivation, be a practitioner of an excellent discipline of study, set up the value pursuit of "carrying forward knowledge through learning", maintain the academic attitude of "striving for excellence", have the awe spirit of "practicing with the sense of shame" and better assume the mission of cultivating virtues and expressing ideas for the country and the people.

Representatives of award winners were presented with certificates.
