South Sichuan Emerging as the Largest National Production Base of Shale Gas

  According to the news from PetroChina, South Sichuan has emerged as China's largest production base for shale gas, accounting for 4.2% of the national daily production of natural gas.

  South Sichuan is the main field for the exploration and development of China's oil and shale gas. On December 24th, 2018, the daily output of PetroChina's shale gas in South Sichuan has reached 2011 million cubic meters, a figure higherthan 20 million cubic meters, representing a year-on-year increase of119.3% and a new record high.

  In 2018, PetroChina mobilized resources across the country to transfer rigs to South Sichuan from Xinjiang, Northeast China, and even from abroad. Up to now, PetroChina has initiated 142 drilling rigs in South Sichuan, a number triplethat of 2017.The national demonstration zones for shale gas such as Changning and Weiyuan have been built. During the process of exploring and developing shale gas in South Sichuan, PetroChina has been devoted to promote theproduction of single well. Thereforeit has secured effective development for resources within 3500metersdown the earth and set a number of precedentsfor domestic shale gas exploration and development.

  In 2017, the output of shale gas in South Sichuan amounted to 3 billion cubic meters. It is estimated that the output of shale gas in South Sichuan will exceed 4.1 billion cubic meters in 2018.
