Mr. Toshihiro Nikai, Director-General of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan Visiting Sichuan with his Delegation

On May 27th, at the invitation of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Mr. Toshihiro Nikai, Director-General of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan visited Sichuan with his delegation. In the afternoon, at the commemoration held at the site of Xuankou Middle School of Wenchuan Earthquake, the members of the delegation stood in silent tribute and offered flowers for the victims in the earthquake and the heroes who died bravely in the relief.

This is another visit in Sichuan of Toshihiro Nikai following the one ten years ago. One month after the devastating earthquake in Wenchuan in 2008, Toshihiro Nikai, the then president of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, sent an envoy delegation of Japanese ruling party to Sichuan, bringing 31 tons of relief supplies including 300 large tents to the earthquake-stricken areas.

On the same day, with the slow Requiem, the members of the Japanese House of Representatives offered flowers at the “5•12 Wenchuan Earthquake Monument”. “After the earthquake, you have overcome the difficulties and regained a better life.” Toshihiro Nikai sighed on the New Street of Yingxiu when seeing how people live there.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the conclusion of the Sino-Japanese Peace and Friendship Treaty and the 10th anniversary of Wenchuan Earthquake. Toshihiro Nikai leading a delegation to visit Sichuan again is to further strengthen Japan-China pragmatic cooperation in such areas as disaster prevention and reduction. During the visit, he will also attend the China-Japan Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Forum held in Chengdu.

Mr. Zhu Hexin, Vice Governor of Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, attended the commemoration.
