The investment in highway and waterway construction in Sichuan Province has surpassed 120 billion yuan for five consecutive years, reaching 130 billion yuan and 140 billion yuan in a row with a total of 669.3 billion yuan, setting a historic high for Sichuan Province's transition from "Difficult Roads in Shu" to "Open Shu Road"and"Smooth Shu Road".

　　Data show that under the support of continuous high-intensive investment, Sichuan has newly built 2486 kilometers of expressways in the past five years with the total mileage ranking the second in China. The newly-reconstructed rural roads reached a total length of 123,000 kilometers, ranking the first in the country in terms of its total mileage.531 kilometers of high-level water channels above grade 4 were newly built whose total mileage increased by 1.5 times.

　　In the same period, Sichuan has constructed hardening roads in 306 townships and 15,000 administrative villages, then the smoothness rate of townships and villages increased by 6.5 and 31 percentages respectively. 10,651 kilometers of general national trunk highways were rebuilt, thus county-to-county roads of or above level 2 (three prefectures of level 3) were achieved; road side security guardrails of 32,000 km were built, meaning that Sichuan taking the lead in achieving that all national, countryand village road with water-cliff height difference of or above 3 meters having roadside guardrail; 829 boat-to-bridges were constructed, 77 rope bridges were rebuilt, and 713 dangerous bridges were renovated, benefiting tens of millions of people.

　　Officials of Department of Transportation of Sichuan Province said that in 2018, Sichuan will continue to maintain high level of investment in highway and waterway construction, and plan to complete more than 130 billion yuan. It is estimated that the traffic mileage of the new expressways will be more than 300 kilometers, newly built general provincial trunk highways 1500 kilometers, new rural roads 16,000 kilometers, and 3000 villages with access to bus.This is to benefit people in transportation.
