Import from and Export to Countries along Belt and Road Initiative of Sichuan Increases by 95.5% from January to April

According to the statistics from Chengdu Customs, from January to April in 2017, the total volume of import from and export to countries along the Belt and Road Initiative of Sichuan has reached 33.08 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 95.5%, accounting for 25.7% of the total import and export volume of foreign trade. Among that, the export volume has rocketed up by 110% to 23.62 billion yuan, while the import volume has risen by 70.6% to 9.46 billion yuan.

It is known from Chengdu Costumes that, the increase should be attributed to the following reasons. First, the main import markets along the Belt and Road Initiative have enjoyed economic recovery, presenting increasing demands for Sichuan products; second, the leading enterprises have grasped the opportunities to expand productivity; third, the price of bulk commodities in the international market has rebounded and larger internal demands have resulted in the fast expansion of import scale in Sichuan from countries and regions along the Belt and Road Initiative.

Foreign-invested enterprises take the lead in importing and exporting commodities. From January to April, the foreign-invested enterprises in Sichuan have realized a total import and export volume of 23.65 billion yuan from and to the countries and regions along the Belt and Road Initiative, a sharp rise of 160%. It accounts for 71.5% of that of Sichuan Province, an increase of 17.5% compared with that of last year. The total import and export volume from and to the countries and regions along the Belt and Road Initiative of private- and state-owned enterprises has scored 5.79 and 3.64 billion yuan respectively, a rise of 30.3% and 9.2% .
