In the first quarter of 2017, Sichuan has transferred a total number of rural workforces of 24.85 million to other regions mainly within Sichuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.5%.
The number of rural workforces transferred within Sichuan surpasses that of those transferred to regions outside Sichuan, with the former accounting for 13.464 million, a rise of 11.1% and the latter 11.389 million, a rise of 5.6%. Among these regions, Chengdu and its developed neighbors boast the largest number of migrant workers, taking up 56% of the total; while the Northwest Sichuan owns the smallest number, accounting for only 1.6%.
All rural workforces transferred to regions outside Sichuan concentrate in Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta, taking up 55.4% of the total transferred workforces.
The rural workforces transferred to the secondary and tertiary industries occupy 96%. The majority of migrant workers are in manufacturing and building industry, with a proportion of 26.4% and 27.5% respectively.
