The Sixth China Chengdu International Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage to Be Held from June 10th to 18th

  The Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China, Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, and Chengdu Municipal People’s Government have convened a joint meeting assembling parties at departmental, municipal, and provincial level yesterday for the Sixth International Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage, Chengdu, China. During the meeting, the work report of the preparation for the festival was delivered, the comprehensive solution was reviewed and adopted, and the festival was decided to be hosted from June 10th to 18th in Chengdu, as the first home event on Chinese Cultural and Natural Heritage Day. Xiang Zhaolun and Dingwei, Vice Chairmen of the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China, and Yang Xingping, Vice Governor of Sichuan Province, attended the meeting.  

  The meeting pointed out that, in accordance with the regulations in the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage issued by the UNESCO and the Intangible Cultural Heritage Law of the People’s Republic of China, the event at both national and international level must be well staged by earnestly implementing the decisions and deployment made by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council for the development and inheritance of Chinese traditional culture. Exchanges and mutual learning should be enhanced based on the previous successful conclusion of the fifth event, so as to continue the success with creative transformation and innovative development of traditional culture promoted and the international influence of Chinese culture intensified.

  The meeting determined that the Sixth Chengdu International Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China, Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, and the National Commission of The People's Republic of China for UNESCO, and organized by Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, the Department of Culture of Sichuan Province, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center of China, the International Training Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage in Asia-Pacific Region under the Auspices of UNESCO, as well as the Center for Ethnic and Folk Literature and Art Development of the Ministry of Culture. Themed by Practice for Inheritance and Development, with worldwide styles, Chinese festivals, Chinese operas, and Chinese arts as the foci, the event will present and showcase the expertise and practices for the inheritance of intangible heritages, and enhance exchanges and mutual learning in this regard, so as to pool the wisdom and power for intangible cultural protection and push forward a more balanced and coordinated relationship among intangible cultural heritage, urban development and city life.

  Officials of relevant parties in the Department of Culture are also present in the meeting.
