Southwest Jiaotong University has spanned for 3 centuries and lasted for 120 years. On the morning of May 15th, Southwest Jiaotong University held 120th Foundation Anniversary Convention. Mrs. Liu Yandong, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, sent a congratulation letter. Mr. Yin Li, Vice Secretary of Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC, Governor of Sichuan Provincial People's Government, Mr. Chen Shun, Assistant of Minister of Education and Party Member, attended the convention and delivered speeches. Mr. Ke Zunping, Chairman of Sichuan Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, attended the convention.

　　In her congratulation letter, Mrs. Liu Yandong said that Southwest Jiaotong University was a famous university with long history and influential background. Since the foundation, Southwest Jiaotong University has shared the same fate with our country, developed together with time and tide, fostered talents, repaid our country with constructing roads, and made positive contributions for national development and ethnic rejuvenation in 120 years. Especially in recent years, Southwest Jiaotong University has focused on national strategy, adhered to fostering morals and talents, highlighted on pioneering and innovation, fostered a large number of talents for the development of rails and national modern construction, and provided intellectual supporting for national development. She hoped that Southwest Jiaotong University could take 120th foundation anniversary as a new starting point to serve our country, shoulder responsibilities, deepen reform, improve quality, enhance comprehensively the levels of talent cultivation, scientific research, social services and cultural heritage, accelerate to construct itself into a comprehensive research university with outstanding features, and make greater contributions for achieving Chinese Dream.

　　On behalf of Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC and Sichuan Provincial People's Government, Governor Yin Li extended sincere congratulations and heartfelt wishes for the faculty and students of Southwest Jiaotong University. He mentioned that Southwest Jiaotong University was a key university with long history and famous reputation which has developed into an influential base for talent cultivation and scientific innovation in rail transport to foster a large number of talents for national construction and make great contributions for local social and scientific development. In this new starting point of 120 years, he hoped that Southwest Jiaotong University could adhere to the ideas of moral and talent training, seize education quality so as to cultivate more talents for Sichuan’s development and national rejuvenation, strengthen the specialties in rail transport and develop these advantageous fields to enlarge her influence and voices in rail transport in China and even in the world, make full use of her advantages to dock with industrial transformation and upgrading effectively, promote the combination of policies, products, sciences, research and utilization, assist Sichuan to construct into a powerful province, and transfer the intelligence of faculty and students into actual productivity of society. Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC and Sichuan Provincial People's Government would further support the reform and development of Southwest Jiaotong University, strengthen the cooperation between provincial levels and Southwest Jiaotong University, jointly promote the construction of first class university and first class subjects, mutually promote the construction of rail transform national laboratory, and enhance scientific and technological structural reform and innovation.

　　On behalf of Ministry of Education, Mr. Chen Shun extended warm congratulations to the faculty and overseas and domestic alumni of Southwest Jiaotong University. He fully affirmed the remarkable achievements of Southwest Jiaotong University in rail transport and the great contributions for national development and ethnic rejuvenation. He hoped that in this new historical starting point Southwest Jiaotong University should adhere to moral and talent cultivation orientation, adhere to the tradition of strictness, absorb advanced ideas, cultivate more talents, adhere to the global scientific and technological frontier, take full advantages of disciplines, provide sound environments and achieve more remarkable achievements, adhere to take Sichuan as foundation to integrate into Southwest China, go into the world, and make greater contributions to national prosperity and ethnic rejuvenation.

　　Southwest Jiaotong University, established in 1896, is the cradle for higher education of transportation engineering, mining and metallurgy engineering, and civil engineering. In recent years, Southwest Jiaotong University has developed innovative study in high-speed rail, overlord, new type urban rail transport, highway, and high temperature superconducting maglev transport from 4 aspects including development strategies, fundamental sciences, supporting technologies, frontier technologies based on the most complete discipline systems and scientific bases in the world in rail transport represented by rail transport laboratory, and surrounded by “One Belt and One Road”, “Made in China 2025”, and “High-Speed Rail Going Globally”.

　　On the memorial conference, presidents from Southwest Jiaotong University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Beijing Jiaotong University, and National Chiao Tung University initiated plans for mutual cultivating world class talents and cooperated in resource sharing, student exchange, and credit transfer and so on.
