On April 25th, project investment agreements of Chengdu New Airport Expressway, Pujiang-Dujiangyan Section of Chengdu Economic Zone Ring Expressway, Sichuan Section of Chengdu-Chongqing Expressway, expressways in Guang'an were signed at Department of Transportation of Sichuan Province.

　　These 4 expressways cover a total mileage of 446 km with the investment of 62 billion yuan which are promoted in accordance with plans. China Railway Group Limited, China Railway Construction Cooperation Limited, PowerChina RoadBridge Group, PowerChina Construction Limited, Sichuan Railway Investment Group Co., Ltd, and Sichuan Road and Bridge Group have succeeded in becoming investors through open bidding.

　　This is the first batch of expressway projects signed in 2016. Responsible officials from Department of Transportation indicated that 2016 was the “project year” determined by Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC and Sichuan Provincial People's Government. In 2016, Sichuan would guarantee to achieve 3 “500” targets in expressways, namely ensuring completion of over 500 km, new construction of over 500 km, and new restoration of over 500 km. The total open mileage will amount to 6,500 km, and the constructed and being constructed expressway mileage will reach 8,000 km.

　　The contract signing indicates that the investment promotion for profit-making highways has entered into new stage and expressways in Sichuan has achieved a good start in the 13th Five-Year Plan Period. In recent years, Sichuan transportation has closely concentrated on the comprehensive targets of constructing safe, efficient, modern, and comprehensive transportation system and fully opened investment construction markets of transportation infrastructure plans. Since the successful investment promotion of Leshan-Yibin Expressway in September, 2005, there have been 39 expressway projects with successful investment promotion, covering the total mileage of 3,885 km, introducing 25 private and state-owned companies, and attracting 367.2 billion yuan of social investment by the end of April, 2016. Sichuan has ranked No. 1 in expressway project scale and the total social funds.

　　During the 13th Five-Year Plan Period, the overall demands of Sichuan transportation are still huge with the average annual investment of over 100 billion yuan, In terms of expressway, Sichuan will accelerate the expressway construction linking Sichuan with other provinces, 5 economic zones in Sichuan and 4 city groups, promote the expansion for congested roads. By the end of 2020, the open highway mileage of Sichuan will be over 800 km and the constructed and being constructed expressway mileage will amount to 10,000 km. Sichuan will complete the construction of 24 expressways and expressways will cover cities with the population of over 100,000. Interprovincial expressway network with smooth conditions and reasonable structures in Sichuan will be completed. The scale of constructed and newly constructed expressways in Sichuan has been ranked among Top 3 in China.
